Real-Time StrategyBlizzardPC1998

The Overmind has been destroyed by the Protoss Tassadar, but the confused Zerg struck back and decimated the Protoss forces, including the Conclave. The Terrans, now united, have been unknowingly under the watch of Earth since they landed, and the leaders of Earth have launched a force which they believe will annihilate the alien species completely. The Zerg are far from finished, however, as their new queen is just beginning to realise her powers...

The expansion for Starcraft adds three new campaigns and a collection of multiplayer missions to the game.

Dr. Andross, once exiled from the planet Corneria in the peaceful Lylat system, has declared himself emperor and launched an all-out attack in show of his power. The underdeveloped Cornerian army is no match for his forces, and chaos reigns throughout the system. General Pepper has no choice but to use the experimental new Arwing combat ships, and has hired the services of mercenary group Star Fox to be their pilots.

The Star Fox team leader is Fox McCloud, and you play his role. Piloting an Arwing, you can choose one of three routes to Venom, Andross' home planet. Levels vary from flying through a massive space armada, a free-floating junkyard, or swooping low over the cities of Corneria, all in SuperFX-powered 3D. A true filled-polygon system shows your third-person view of the world throughout the game as you blast your way through the followers of Andross.

Not so much a sequel as a remake of the original Star Fox. Dr. Andross, scientist on the peaceful planet of Corneria in the Lylat system, spent his life developing dangerous biological weapons. The people of the planet feared the effects of his research, and exiled him to the distant planet Venom. Time passed, allowing him to continue his research. General Pepper of Corneria sent the mercenary Star Fox group to investigate, but they were set up and the leader, James McCloud, was killed. Now Andross has declared war and is advancing on Corneria, and Pepper has no choice but to send the new Star Fox team to stop him.

As team leader Fox McCloud, son of James, you take point over a series of 3D scrolling levels and enclosed combat arenas against the forces of Andross. Your path to Venom depends on your actions in the levels, and whether your wingmen survive the combat. The Lylat system is a little different to the original, with some planets and space combat areas kept and others dropped in favour of new ones. These are augmented by tank-based zones and even a submarine stage. New features also include laser lock-on, "all range mode" free-roaming sections, and even combat against enemy Arwings.

The Lylat system is under attack from the forces of Venom, and it is down to Star Fox to save the day... or it would be if it still existed. In the time that has passed since the defeat of Andross, peace has reigned and the team has gone about their separate ways. Fox travels from world to world along a number of possible storylines, reuniting and recruiting new members and saving the galaxy as he goes.

Play takes place over two phases. Each stage is a turn-based command run where the current team members must explore the area and seek out enemy swarms and bases while protecting the Great Fox from attack. At the end of each round any encounters are played out in an All Range Mode-style arena battle with touch control for special moves. A time limit covers every encounter and persists to the next, only charged by felling specific enemies or activating powerups.

After an intergalactic war, a series of space stations have been reduced to desolate husks. But now peace has broken out, and the aliens need help rebuilding the stations and returning them to the bustling hives of activity they once were.

That's where you come in. A series of single-player missions (as well as multiplayer and open-ended play) put you in charge of one of the giant space doughnuts. Cynical British robot VAL offers advice and support as you construct the amenities that your visitors will require and manage the hiring and firing of your staff. The Engineering deck is home to the Groulien Salt Hogs working the factories and the insectoid Grekka Targ on comms, while the Entertainment deck provides the punters with shops, bars and Siren-controlled love nests, and the Biodeck offers peace and tranquility among the flora. Often you are not the only manager on-board, and it is necessary for your staff to take up arms and force their way through the bulkhead into enemy territory.

The fairies have been kidnapped and it is your task, as Stormlord, to rescue them before nightfall. They are scattered around four platform-based side-scrolling levels, among various nasties and behind locked doors. Pick-ups can be collected and used to progress further; doors are unlocked with keys and killer bees distracted with honey, for example. Bigger nasties can be avoided or destroyed using a fireball weapon. It's best to try one of those methods, as getting hit results in instant loss of one of your nine lives.

You are the son of Teo McDohl, one of the five Imperial Generals of the Scarlet Moon Empire. After circumstances force your character (who has no default name) to flee the capital city with only a few trusted servants, you come into contact with the rebel Liberation Army, and by a twist of fate become their leader. Now you must find recruits for your fledgling army and make your defiant way through the Empire, which will eventually lead you to battle with the five Imperial Generals and the Golden Emperor himself, Barbarossa.

There are three types of turn-based battle in Suikoden. Most of them will be your standard random encounters interrupting your journeys around the world, fought with a party of six chosen from your army recruits, and with a few scripted boss battles as well. There are also battles with thousands on each side, in which you issue commands as in a more complex game of rock-scissors-paper. Then there are the one-on-one duels, which use the same strategy. To build up your army, you must find up to 108 different characters, the Stars of Destiny. Most will add to your battle strength, but some will improve upon your headquarters, a castle in the middle of an inland sea, adding amenities such as an armor shop or inn.

Six rubies are scattered around a hedge maze, and it is your task to find them and take them to the exit one by one. It's no easy task, as your timer is constantly decreasing and you have to be on your guard for the ghost that wanders the maze. Getting caught or stumbling into it results in instant death. The game proper is viewed from a first person perspective, with the hedges being drawn (slowly) receeding into the distance.
