A "gold" release of the original Doom, containing a new episode: Thy Flesh Consumed. In this collection of levels, the Spider Mastermind sent out its minions to follow you back to earth and it is your task to stop them. Otherwise, it's a case of "more of the same," the only difference in the new levels being that they are set on Earth.

All around us, beneath the universe we perceive as three- (or more, as physics will have it)-dimensional beings is a slice of reality in which brightly-coloured unicycles spend eternity racing. Their courses, being "dimensionally challenged," have to be viewed from the side and from very close up. The inability to see what's ahead of them means that they must rely on the colour of the track to determine what's going to happen next, and the incredible speeds test their reflexes to the max. In order to gain the edge over their competitor, they can perform a variety of stunts to give them a momentary speed boost. Care must be taken, however, to ensure that they land wheel-down. When not racing, these unibatics can also be used in direct competition as the cycles strive to achieve a certain number of stunt points in a strict time limit. The cream of the wheeled crop can even work their way through a league by competing against ghost unicycles over a series of tours.

A violent jolt wakes you up and forces you to take stock of your situation. You are on board the prison transport ship, the Vortex Rikers, bound for somewhere you'd rather not think about. However, something is hideously wrong. Screams and acrid smoke fill the air, all but drowning out the sirens. The ship is moments away from a crash landing, but you are still locked in your cell. Suddenly the ship lurches again, throwing you painfully against the wall and knocking you out cold. Somehow you survive planetfall, and regain consciousness among the ruins of your cell block. The gates are open now, and it is far too quiet outside. And so you find yourself, battered and bruised but otherwise alive, free -- but on an alien planet inhabited by alien hostiles known as the Skaarj. You begin your mission to get off the rock, and in classic first-person style it'll involve plenty of firefights with said hostiles. It's a story-based, hub-like structure that'll require shutting down power plants and otherwise crippling the Skaarj in order to progress. Help and secrets may be given by the Nali slaves you encounter on the way, so care must be taken not to let them die. For deathmatch purposes, there is also built-in bot support.

"In 2291, in an attempt to control violence among deep space miners, the New Earth Government legalised no-holds-barred fighting. Liandri Mining Corporation, working with the NEG, established a series of leagues and bloody public exhibitions..." Now, over 50 years later, the barbaric Tournaments are the big thing in entertainment. Voyeuristic and violent, championship matches are staged between battle-hardened warriors and unfortunate prisoners competing for fame - and survival. And you have earned a place in the premiership. It's deathmatch, then. Bloodthirsty free-for-alls in which realism goes out of the window in the name of fast-paced action. That's not just in multiplayer mode, however. The single player game is a structured league of matches against skilled bots, giving you five ladders to complete at the difficulty level of your choosing. Unlike similar games (read: Quake III Arena), the emphasis is a little more team-oriented with the classic Capture the Flag, the tactical "king of the hill"-style Domination, and Assault missions accompanying the usual slaughter.

The sequel/update to Unreal Tournament keeps the basic idea of the original while putting the focus even more on tactical play. We're in the future, and the most popular sport among the spectating public is deathmatch. Times have changed a little since UT, and the brutal carnage has slowly given way to a more team-based sport. The single player ladder now requires you, after a few qualifying matches, to choose your own team with which to take on the tournament. The game modes have been given an overhaul, too. Domination has given way to Double Domination, in which your team must take two bases and hold for ten seconds in order to score. Assault has been scrapped and replaced with Bombing Run, a game of rugby in which the ball carrier is unable to attack. Also new is the perverse "Ragdoll" physics engine which causes dead bodies to tumble and respond to the environment realistically.

Imagine being able to access the internet of 2010 with a system that can never be traced back to you. Imagine having access to a filebase of hacking and cracking tools, and a message board on which people can request your services. This is the situation in Uplink, a freeform game that allows you to test your 733t madskillz by becoming an Uplink Agent. Bank jobs, stealing files, corrupting databases, and all sorts of high tech fraud are possible, but you must be careful to cover your tracks. If the police catch you, your Uplink account will be closed and all knowledge denied. And while all this is going on, Something Big is growing on the net...

Fast-paced flying, skimming over the surface of enormous monochrome starships, viewed from overhead. Your mission is to destroy the ship's defenses, while dodging around structural hazards and annihilating the swarms of alien craft trying to defend their mothership. When the ship is defenseless, you have to land on it and initiate its self-destruct sequence and get the heck out of there to the next ship.
