OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast (PC)

Have you been a victim of a Sega PC conversion? Every day, hundreds of gamers settle in front of their beige boxes expecting some arcade entertainment courtesy of one of the industry's biggest players, little realising the horrors that await them. What was once an excellent blissed-out driving game full of shiny Ferraris, weird girlfriend challenges, and half-mile powerslides has been reduced to buggy mess with skipping mismatched audio that crashes the entire system if you dare to play it with a SoundBlaster card. The graphics, while crisp and pleasing to the eye, tear by at a 60Hz refresh rate that slowly melts the visual cortex of those who watch for too long. Manually hacking the refresh rate to a more healthy level naturally increases the speed of the game to match until too much is going on and once again, the system reboots. The main menu allows either keyboard or controller input, but decides arbitrarily which button corresponds to which option. There is no force feedback. In a driving game.

If you or anyone you know has been affected by shoddy porting of an otherwise superb Sega title to PC, please do the right thing and contact your local authorities. Help is available in the form of uninstal.exe.
