Final Fantasy IX Weapons

Claws

Amarant is both a powerful fighter and support character, with strong equipment and the ability to learn a variety of white magic-style skills. Keeping on top of his game with new equipment helps to take advantage of his versatility and strength, as each weapon brings out a different side of his combat style.

NameStatus
Cat's ClawOrdinary claws used for combat.
  Attack: 23
No special status
[A] Chakra: 30
[S] Counter: 240
[Uncommon]
  • Amarant's initial equipment.
  • Purchase in Alexandria, Treno.
  • Find in Ipsen's Castle.

Amarant's first weapon isn't really anything special considering the lateness of his arrival, and a better weapon is available even before he joins. Keep it for the Chakra if need be.

Poison KnucklesCombat knuckles.
  Attack: 33
Add ST: Poison
[A] Spare Change: 90
[S] Counter: 240
[Uncommon]
  • Purchase in numerous shops.

This may be bought in Conde Petie, foreshadowing Amarant's appearance. Throwing away good money is perhaps a rather counterproductive method of attack, but just look at the poison!

Mythril ClawsClaws made of mythril.
  Attack: 39
No special status
[A] Curse: 20
[S] Counter: 240
[Restricted]
  • Steal from Taharka.
  • Purchase in Esto Gaza, Oeilvert.

Despite being made of mythil, this handwear is disappointingly ineffectual. On top of that, it is only available on disc 3.

Scissors FangWeapon with deadly venom on the tip.
  Attack: 45
Add ST: Venom
[A] Aura: 25
[S] Counter: 240
[Restricted]
  • Purchase in Esto Gaza.

Venom makes this a useful replacement for the weaker Poison Knuckles, and Aura's regenerative and protective abilities are unbelievably useful. A disc 3 highlight weapon.

Dragon's ClawsWeapon made from a dragon's claw.
  Attack: 53
Elem-Atk: Water
[A] No Mercy: 25
[S] Counter: 240
[Unique]
  • Find with Chocograph 7, Forgotten Lagoon.

Venom makes this a useful replacement for the weaker Poison Knuckles, and Aura's regenerative and protective abilities are unbelievably useful. A disc 3 highlight weapon.

Tiger FangsLong, sharp claws.
  Attack: 62
No special status
[A] Revive: 35
[S] Counter: 240
[Restricted]
  • Purchase in Daguerreo.

A generally middling pair of pointy gloves, the Tiger Fangs have little special purpose other than teaching the mildly useful Revive skill.

AvengerPowerful claws that can kill opponents with one hit.
  Attack: 70
Add ST: Death Blow
[A] Demi Shock: 50
[S] Counter: 240
[Uncommon]
  • Steal from Earth Guardian.
  • Purchase in Bran Bal, Daguerreo.

Now this is a weapon. "Powerful claws that can kill opponents with one hit." An attack power of 70 for those who aren't caught by the added status effect.

Kaiser KnucklesClaws with a wind spirit dwelling inside.
  Attack: 75
Add ST: Trouble
Elem-Atk: Wind
[A] Countdown: 40
[A] Curse: 20
[S] Counter: 240
[Uncommon]
  • Find with Chocograph 15, Dusk Plains.
  • Steal from Silver Dragon.
  • Purchase in Daguerreo.

A very powerful endgame weapon, the Kaiser Knuckles have an impressive strength and (through their status attack) can damage more than one enemy at a time.

Duel ClawsWeapon once used by a lengendary hero.
  Attack: 75
Add ST: Berserk
[A] Aura: 25
[A] No Mercy: 25
[S] Counter: 240
[Uncommon]
  • Steal from Deathguise.
  • Synth in the Black Mage Village.

A competitor to the Kaiser Knuckles with a similar strength, the ability to learn Aura if you missed it earlier is a very useful one. However, Berserk as an added status is a somewhat unusual choice and is best used against magical opponents.

Rune ClawsLegendary combat claws that use the power of darkness to unleash a destructive force beyond imagination.
  Attack: 83
Add ST: Darkness
[A] Spare Change: 90
[A] Demi Shock: 50
[S] Revive: 35
[Unique]
  • Find in Memoria.

Amarant's ultimate weapon is suitably strong and comes with some useful abilities if you overlook Spare Change. He really should have learned Counter by this point anyway.
