Eternal Legend - Final Fantasy IX - Equipment
Final Fantasy IX Equipment

Swords

Swords. A classic weapon, ideal for anyone who wants to hit things until they die. Steiner can carry a range of sharpened sticks and (despite his rather... clumsy nature) is more than capable of using them well in a fight. Later on in the adventure though, he should upgrade to specialist Knight Swords for the ultimate power.

NameStatus
BroadswordOrdinary sword used in combat.
  Attack: 12
No special status
[S] Beast Killer: 55
[Uncommon]
  • Steiner's initial equipment.
  • Steal from Prison Cage.
  • Find in Ipsen's Castle.
  • Purchase in Dali.

Steiner's initial equipment, while weak, offers the chance to learn the ever-useful Beast Killer ability. Once that is done, be sure to switch to something more befitting his position.

Iron SwordSword made of iron.
  Attack: 16
No special status
[A] Minus Strike: 35
[Uncommon]
  • Steal from Baku.
  • Purchase in Dali, Lindblum, Ipsen's Castle.

...Such as this. This functional blade may be stolen from Baku in Evil Forest, and will have to last a long time before anything more interesting shows up. If you miss it during the battle, be sure to buy one in Dali.

Mythril SwordSword made of mythril.
  Attack: 20
No special status
[A] Armour Break: 30
[Restricted]
  • Steal from Beatrix.
  • Purchase in Treno, Esto Gaza.

An essential replacement, as it just looks bad when Steiner's equipment is weaker than that scoundrel Zidane's. Steal one from Beatrix to start disc 2 on a high note. Armour Break sounds useful in theory, but in practice it's rarely effective.

Blood SwordSword varnished with blood.
  Attack: 24
No special status
[A] Darkside: 30
[Rare]
  • Steal from Tiamat.
  • Receive one during the Stellazzio sidequest.

Pleasant. Provided you don't think it too evil to use, the Blood Sword makes up for its relative weakness by draining its victims. This enables Steiner to absorb the HP from his enemies simply by attacking, making it very useful when potions are in short supply or when Steiner is fighting without a white mage.

Ice BrandWeapon with an ice spirit dwelling inside.
  Attack: 35
Elem-Atk: Ice
Add ST: Freeze
[A] Mental Break: 45
[Uncommon]
  • Steal from Beatrix.
  • Purchase in many shops.

Though nigh-on impossible to steal from Beatrix, this chilly weapon is certainly worth the effort. While its elemental attack may not always be useful, the ability to inflict Freeze can make short work of enemies.

Coral SwordSword made of coral.
  Attack: 38
Elem-Atk: Thunder
[A] Charge!: 30
[Uncommon]
  • Steal from Lani.
  • Purchase in Treno, Lindblum.

The Thunder sibling of the elemental swords lacks for status ailment infliction, but offers the commendable Charge! ability instead. Once learned, however, it is difficult to recommend keeping this weapon unless elemental attacks are needed.

Diamond SwordSword made of diamond.
  Attack: 42
No special status
[A] Power Break: 40
[Restricted]
  • Find in Oeilvert.
  • Purchase in the Desert Palace, Esto Gaza.

The famed hardness of the blade possesses great power, to make up for the lack of special effects common to high-level swords. Only available on disc 3.

Flame SabreWeapon with a fire spirit dwelling inside.
  Attack: 46
Elem-Atk: Fire
Add ST: Heat
[A] Magic Break: 25
[Restricted]
  • Purchase in Esto Gaza.

The companion to the Ice Brand provides fire elemental attack where needed, and the ability to inflict Heat in order to decimate the enemy ranks. Also only available in disc 3.

Rune BladeWeapon that has Rune inscriptions.
  Attack: 57
Add ST: Darkness
[A] Iai Strike: 40
[Restricted]
  • Purchase in Daguerreo.

This mystical sword possesses the ability to blind its victims, and teach a skill to bring about instant death. In addition, it is among one of the most powerful swords for its type. What more encouragement do you need?

DefenderSword possessing a guardian angel.
  Attack: 65
Spirit: +3
Elem-Def: Ice/Thunder damage reduced by 50%
[A] Thunder Slash: 30
[Uncommon]
  • Purchase in Bran Bal, Daguerreo.

A truly deadly sword with a veritable pot pourri of abilities and attributes. Essential equipemnt in Steiner's arsenal, at least until the more powerful Knight Swords turn up.
