Thief Swords

Thief Swords are mighty weapons made by gluing together a pair of daggers, a tricky task best left to the experts at synthesis shops. They are typically more powerful than their source components, provide a range of damaging skills, and are much easier to spin around for a cool victory pose.

NameStatus
Butterfly SwordStandard thief's sword.
  Attack: 21
Add ST: Silence
[A] What's That!?: 40
[S] Protect Girls: 35
[Uncommon]
  • Synth from Dagger/Mage Masher.

This entry-level thief sword may be synthesised in Lindblum from a Dagger and a Mage Masher. The stronger and more useful Ogre may also be synthed at this point, but What's That!? and Protect Girls are rare enough to warrant using this sword until they're learned.

The OgreStandard thief's sword.
  Attack: 24
Add ST: Darkness
[A] Soul Blade: 35
[Uncommon]
  • Synth from Mage Masher/Mage Masher.

A highly useful Thief Sword which may be built up from a couple of spare Mage Mashers. The ability to inflict Darkness is always nice, and learning Soul Blade allows Zidane to bring out the real power of status ailments on other weapons. A must.

ExplodaSword made by processing trouble knife.
  Attack: 31
Add ST: Trouble
[A] Sacrifice: 55
[A] Lucky Seven: 85
[Uncommon]
  • Synth from Mage Masher/Myhtril Dagger.

Apparently synthing together a Mage Masher and Mythril Dagger also works, which is useful as there aren't any "trouble knives" around. Add ST Trouble can help whittle down groups of stronger enemies, but otherwise this blade's abilities are somewhat lacking.

Rune ToothAlso known as 'The Viper.'
  Attack: 37
Add ST: Poison
[A] Lucky Seven: 85
[Uncommon]
  • Synth from Mythril Dagger/Myhtril Dagger.

Available from the Black Mage Village in exchange for a pair of Mythril Daggers, this strong twin-blade sword pierces to the bone and poisons its victims to continue the damage. Particularly useful with support from Soul Blade.

Angel BlessWeapon with an angel's spirit dwelling inside.
  Attack: 44
Add ST: Confuse
[A] Thievery: 100
[Uncommon]
  • Synth from Mythril Dagger/Gladius.

Thievery! If Zidane has been exercising his nimble fingers, this skill will be a real killer as it increases in power with every steal. The Confusion added status is an unusual choice as further physical attacks will remove the ailment, so perhaps is not the best choice tactically.

SargatanasSword made by processing 'Epitaph's Fragment.'
  Attack: 53
Add ST: Petrify
[A] Annoy: 50
[Restricted]
  • Synth from Gladius/Zorlin Shape.

Serious firepower. An advanced thief sword only available from the most skilled synthesists in late disc 3-4. In addition to being a tasty piece of kit, Add Status or Soul Blade allows this sword to instantly petrify enemies. Remember that Zorlin Shapes do eventually stop being available to buy.

MasamuneSword from a foreign land.
  Attack: 62
Magic: +2
Add ST: Doom
[A] Sacrifice: 55
[Restricted]
  • Synth from Zorlin Shape/Orichalcon.

A deadly sword which boosts Zidane's magic stat to help with all those spells that, um, he can't cast. The other death-based abilities are questionable in their intent: Any enemy inflicted with Doom will probably fall before the counter reaches 0. Still, it's the masamune.

The TowerWeapon that defines a great thief.
  Attack: 86
Add ST: Mini
[A] Lucky Seven: 85
[A] Thievery: 100
[Unique]
  • Find in Memoria.

An awesome weapon found only in Memoria. With Zidane probably powerful enough to sneeze a Yan to death by this time, extra strength isn't much of a draw. However, the variety of abilities (Thievery!) and joy of inflicting Mini are reason enough to take up this sword.

Ultima WeaponConsidered the most powerful weapon in the world.
  Attack: 100
Add ST: Sleep
[A] Flee: 40
[Unique]
  • Dive into Shimmering Island with Choco.

The most powerful weapon in the world? Strengthwise it's certainly hard to ignore, but Sleep and Flee? That said, if Zidane has already learned everything there is to know, and Add ST isn't an issue, then this is the thing to take into battle.
