Final Fantasy VI
SHINY SHINY SHINY
Long ago, the War of the Magi reduced the world to a scorched wasteland, and magic simply ceased to exist. 1000 years have passed... Iron, gunpowder, and steam engines have been rediscovered, and high technology reigns... But there are some who would enslave the world by reviving the dread destructive force known as "magic." Can it be that those in power are on the verge of repeating a senseless and deadly mistake?
The world is under the iron grip of an evil empire, opposed only by a resistance group known as the Returners. However, all that may be about to change. The Empire have received rumours of an ancient magical beast, still living, trapped in ice. The maniacal general Kefka has sent his latest acquisition, a girl with mysterious powers, to retrieve the creature. But something goes wrong, and in a flash of light she finds herself free of the empire, and the slave crown they were using to control her.
Just what is Terra's purpose in this world? What is the source of her unusual powers? Why is Kefka bent on finding the beasts? Such are the questions answered in the epic Final Fantasy VI. And it really is an epic; as Terra struggles to discover who she is and what she must do, she encounters others with stories of their own. Those with lost loves seeking vengeance against the empire, those who have betrayed and been betrayed themselves, tormented souls with tortured pasts, and free-thinkers with a lust for life, they gather from all corners of the world and unite under a common goal. But it will not be easy, as the crazed Kefka's descent into madness threatens the entire world.
The last of the series to appear on the Super Nintendo, FFVI (III in the US) is regarded as one of the system's greatest games. A technological stride from its prequel, it took the genre to new levels. No less than 14 beautifully rendered player characters travel its rich and detailed world, fighting bold enemies in pseudo-realtime encounters. The magical Espers are the key to character development, providing not only summons but also teaching spells to their users. Each character also has their own innate special ability for use in battle, such as sword fighting skills or magical transformation. Thoughtful management of the characters is essential, especially when they divide into groups and you must keep three separate parties alive at once...
