Abilities
Barrier
Cost: 16MP
A character with a Barrier will take half damage from physical attacks, but the spell only lasts for a limited amount of time. A metallic shield will flash up when hit, the size of which depends on how much of the barrier remains. The current barrier status for party members is also shown in the status bar for quick reference.
MBarrier
Cost: 24MP
MBarrier becomes available once the materia reaches its second level. It's the magical version of Barrier, halving the effect of spells with its rainbow-coloured shield. Note that curative magic is also affected. Barrier and MBarrier can be cast on the same target.
Reflect
Cost: 30MP
Reflect is useful in both offensive and defensive situations. It forms a protective barrier around the target, which will cause spells to bounce off it and hit another randomly-determined target on the opposing side. A spell may be bounced multiple times between Reflective characters.
Wall
Cost: 58MP
Wall combines Barrier and MBarrier in one spellcasting. It costs 18MP more than the individual spells, but takes only one turn and ensures both barriers are at the same strength.
Combo tactics
Barrier is standard magic, and so can be paired up with All to aid the entire party at once.
Casting Reflect on the party, and then offensive magic against them, results in the three attacks being reflected onto random opponents. This results in a greater total damage at the cost of setting up Reflect in the first place, but may be of use in prolonged battles.
