If an ally is physically attacked, a person with Cover materia has a chance of intercepting the blow and taking the damage themselves. They will protect their allies with their life, and will continue to Cover even when low on HP themselves. Note that this materia offers no protection against magical attacks.
Combo tactics
A successful Cover counts as a physical attack against the materia owner, and so they will use any Counter Attack materia they own. This is independent materia, so doesn't need to be linked to do this. The ally protected by a Cover will not counterattack.
