As a SeeD, you will be using Guardian Forces (GF for short) to enhance your powers. GF are able to conjure up extreme energies and manipulate our very reality. More primitive cultures may have called them gods, but we know them to be are independent sources of energy that exist outside of our usual perceptions.
You link with the GF via a process called Junctioning. You may link to many of them at once, but each GF may only be linked to one member of your party at a time. Once Junctioned, you will be able to use any of the GF's abilities, such as battle commands or using magic to boost your own power.
As you fight, your GF will level up with you and gain AP, which is used to teach them new abilities. They may also be taught by using certain items, and skills may be forgotten with Amnesia Greens. This is important to keep in mind, as each GF may only know 22 skills at any one time.
When times are tough, you may call upon your GF by using the GF command to summon them forth in battle. This action takes a little while to complete, during which your ATB bar will turn blue and steadily decrease. During this time, the GF will link with yourself and your HP count will be replaced with its own. Should you take damage, it will be the GF that suffers instead of you. When the ATB bar empties, the GF will be summoned to your cause. Should it be killed before this happens, it must be healed before you may call upon it again.
