Eternal Legend - Final Fantasy VIII - Limit Breaks
Final Fantasy VIII Limit Breaks

Slot

Selphie's limit break reflects her scattered approach to things outside of battle. She will choose to cast a randomly-selected magic between one and three times, but if the choice doesn't appeal, she can keep "rolling the dice" until something better comes up. The catch is that the battle continues throughout the selection, making it increasingly dangerous to wait for the right spell to come up. Once an action is confirmed, there is additional uncertainty over the targets. She will always choose the right side, casting offensive spells on the enemy and defensive ones on her allies, but the exact targets are subject to her whim.

The major benefit to her Slot skill lies in the fact that the magic does not come from her stock. She may cast spells she doesn't currently have, and she may use ones she does without diminishing her supply. She does seem more inclined, however, towards choosing magic she has in stock over magic she doesn't. More powerful spells appear more often, and at higher counts, if she is in more danger. When times are exceptionally tough, it's not uncommon for her to chain-cast Flare or Ultima.

Selphie's arsenal isn't limited to just the usual spells. There are four additional magics, two offensive and two defensive, which may appear in times of trouble.

1Full-Cure
FrequencyCommon
TargetAll allies

2Wall
FrequencyUncommon
TargetAll allies

A very physical-looking wall, which fortunately disappears after a moment to allow the group to attack. It has the effect of casting Shell and Protect on all allies, halving the damage they take from both magical and physical attacks. They do eventually wear out, with a warning message indicating as such.

3Rapture
FrequencyRare
TargetAll enemies

Even monsters can see the light and begin their ascension to heaven... whether they want to or not. Rapture attempts to send all opponents to the great beyond, but is not effective against bosses. Other monsters immune to its effects are Cactuars and the ground-based hands.

4The End
FrequencyVery rare; extreme cases only
TargetAll enemies

The environment in engulfed in the serenity of a summer field, as movie-style widescreen bars appear and the words "The End" are handwritten in the corner of the screen. The battle is instantly over, killing all enemies - even the most powerful of bosses. Understandably, this magic is rare in the extreme, even for a Lv100 Selphie on 1HP with both of her allies fallen.
