The hero of the piece, Squall is a near permanent party member around whom much of the story revolves. As a SeeD candidate studying under Quistis, his speciality is the deadly gunblade and his battle skills make him a favourite to pass.
Squall's personal skills, on the other hand, are something of a different matter. He is fiercely antisocial, actively keeping himself apart from others - because it's "safer" that way. His silent pauses, though really anxiety-ridden reflective moments, are often mistaken for deep tactical thought. As such, he finds leadership roles thrust upon him and others hanging on his every (rare) word. Only by spending time with a true free spirit could he hope to break out of his shell.
When it comes to combat, the speed and accuracy which which he wields his signature blade means Squall is unmatched even by his arch-rival Seifer. Every hit can be made critical with a well-timed pull of the trigger. His desperation attack, Renzokuken, chains together multiple hits.
