Final Fantasy X's weapon system is rather unlike that of previous games. They have no statistics. No weapon has a higher attack power or hit rate than another. Instead they come loaded with up to four abilities which may increase a character's statistics, inflict a status ailment, and so on. There are many, many possible combinations, and as you can change equipment during battle you can mix and match for the right moment.
Basic weapons can be bought from shops as usual, and a lot of enemies will drop random weapons on defeat. These are your "raw materials," and often come with a few empty ability slots. Once Rikku becomes a permanent member of the party, she can use up inventory items to Customise, adding abilities into empty spaces. This operation cannot be undone, so be very careful when using up rare items this way. See a list of Auto-Abilities and their requirements.
Instead of the names of weapons telling you what abilities it has, now the abilities lead to the name. What defines a piece of equipment is its abilities, and just to make your life easier this leads to a short name. So, two items can have the same name but be very different. The ordering of the equipment on each of the following pages should (hopefully) represent their priority. That is to say that the weapon will be given the highest name on the list that it qualifies for. For example, if Wakka's weapon has Silencetouch and Piercing, it will be called Noisebreaker as the former "outranks" the latter. If he then added Sleeptouch to it, it would become Double Penalty as that outranks them all.
The Celestial Weapons are extra-special, unique weapons that cannot be customised. Even if you make one with the same abilities, it will not be given the special name or appearance. There are no celestial armours.

Swords & Shields |
| Character: Tidus | |
Tidus isn't a fighter by nature, but he develops enthusiasm for battle after having swords pushed into his hands. These weapons of his maintain a good balance of power and control, meaning that he won't do the most damage on the field but will keep a very high hit ratio.
| |
Balls & Armguards |
| Character: Wakka | |
As a memento of his time in the pool spheres, Wakka uses a variety of balls in battle. They may not be very tough, but he has a deadly accurate aim and can attack aerial and long range monsters without difficulty.
| |
Staves & Rings |
| Character: Yuna | |
As summoner and white mage, Yuna has little need for physical attacks. Her staves do pitiful damage and are best suited to boosting her own natural abilities.
| |
Dolls & Bangles |
| Character: Lulu | |
Lulu has difficulty relating to people, and has instead formed a relationship with stuffed dolls. These possessed plushies can be used to attack in a fight, but their real power comes from passive abilities.
| |
Lances & Armlets |
| Character: Kimahri | |
The Ronso Kimahri likes nothing more than to run the enemies of Yuna through with bladed spears. His strength and power with which he can use these weapons means that they can break through even the toughest armour.
| |
Katana & Bracers |
| Character: Auron | |
Auron is a master fighter and has seen more battles than you would care to think about. His skills with armour-piercing swords are legendary.
| |
Claws & Targes |
| Character: Rikku | |
Don't expect Rikku to do much damage; these wristblades are more for self defence against the Yevonites than anything else. |
