Rikku is an Al Bhed, and Yuna's cousin to boot, but don't tell Wakka! She is one of the first allies Tidus encounters, having stopped her group from killing him in the ruined Baaj temple. She later joins the pilgrimage as one of Yuna's guardians, in an effort to stop her from risking her life to battle Sin. Despite acting for such a serious cause, and being a "heathen" Al Bhed despised by the rest of Spira, her light-hearted attitude almost never falters. As she says on becoming one of the team, she'll "just have to be the merriest!"
Rikku can't stand blind faith in the teachings of Yevon, and just wishes that the Al Bhed could be accepted by the rest of the world - putting her completely at odds with Wakka. Fortunately, the rest of the guardians are ready to stop them from killing each other.
Her prime attributes are her speed in battle and her ability to use special items. She may also join Wakka and Tidus in underwater scenarios courtesy of her diving gear. Her limited Sphere Grid area includes Steal and Use, while level 1 and 2 locks lead the way to Kimahri's multi-purpose choices and mid-range white magic respectively. Importantly, she brings with her the ability to Customise equipment, using up items outside of battle to add auto-abilities to weapons and armour. Her Mix overdrive uses up items too, creating a wide variety of both offensive and defensive effects.
