Celestial Weapons

Each of the characters has a special weapon, known as a Celestial Weapon, whose abilities cannot be reproduced by remodelling. Obtaining these weapons, however, is a task that encompasses most of the subgames and will almost certainly drive you mad. It's more than worth it, as a team of Celestial-equipped fighters can kick some serious Sin.

Tidus - Yuna - Wakka - Lulu - Auron - Kimahri - Rikku

Celestial Mirror

The weapons themselves are contained in protected chests and behind glyphs, and you need a special Key Item to access them. This item is the Celestial Mirror, and the quest begins in the Calm Lands, at Remiem Temple.

Obtaining the Cloudy Mirror

Get to Remiem Temple by mounting a chocobo and heading for the feather in the far southeast corner of the Calm Lands. To the left of the entrance is a racing chocobo; use the sphere beside it to find out about the race. All you need to do to get the Cloudy Mirror is beat the chocobo to the centre of the course; it doesn't matter whether you get the chests or hit the posts.

Upgrading to the Celestial Mirror

There's a family near the first save point in Macalania Forest. Talk to them to find out that they're missing a member, then go and find him at the camp site to the right. Tell him where his family is and he'll return to them, but now the kid has gone missing. He can be found at the T-junction on the glowing path that travels above Macalania. Speak to him and you'll be asked if you want to use the Cloudy Mirror. Do so and it will become Celestial.

Celestial Weapons

Once you have the Celestial Mirror, you can start hunting around for the weapons. Use it in the right places and the character will come and collect their prize. The damage dealt by these weapons depends on either the current HP or MP of the user, that is to say that Tidus at critical HP will not do as much damage as he would fully-healed. On the downside, the weapons all have the No AP ability.

Fortunately, each weapon can be upgraded twice, first by finding its Crest and then its Sigil. When you have the required ingredients, head to the area in Macalania where you used the Cloudy Mirror. You'll be given the option of upgrading your weapons here. Using the Crest will give it No AP and Double Overdrive, and it may also allow an Aeon's attacks to do over 9999 damage. The weapon need not be equipped for the Aeon to do this; the act of using the Crest gives them the ability. The Sigil, which must be used after the Crest, will give the weapon entirely new abilities.

Tidus

Caladbolg

Train a chocobo in the Calm Lands and beat the trainer in the final race. You don't necessarily need to get to the finish before her, just beat her on overall time. Grabbing a balloon will decrease your time, while getting hit by a bird will cause it to go up. Once you have bested her, the woman guarding the little path in the northwest corner will be gone, and you can head down it to collect the celestial sword.

Abilities: No AP

The higher Tidus' current HP, the more damage this weapon deals.

Sun Crest

The Sun Crest can be found after defeating Yunalesca in the Zanarkand temple. In her area floating in space, there is a broken staircase to the left. Climb this and you will appear on the other staircase, and the chest will be right in front of you.

Abilities: No AP, Double Overdrive

Sun Sigil

This one hurts. You'll be rewarded with the Sun Sigil if you can finish the chocobo race in the Calm Lands with less than 0.0 on the clock. As it takes just over thirty seconds to run the course anyway, this means collecting at least 10-15 balloons and not getting hit by the birds. You'll curse, scream, and weep like a baby before you get this. Keep at it, as it is possible.

Abilities: Break Damage Limit, Triple Overdrive, Evade & Counter, Magic Counter

Yuna

Nirvana

The Nirvana can be found in the chest in front of the Monster Arena, which will appear once you have captured one of every monster in the Calm Lands. Simple, no?

Abilities: No AP

The higher Yuna's current MP, the more damage this weapon deals.

Moon Crest

The Moon Crest can be found at almost the start of the game. It's in a chest in a little cove on the right-hand side of Besaid Beach. Swim out to sea a little and around the rocks, and it's right there.

Abilities: No AP, Double Overdrive

Valefor may now exceed the 9999 damage limit. The weapon doesn't need to be equipped, nor does Yuna need to be in the party. Well, she does in order to actually summon Valefor, but you know what I mean.

Moon Sigil

The Moon Sigil is one of the easiest to obtain, and can be done so at Remiem Temple. Go inside to meet Belgemine, and she will challenge you to an Aeon duel. Defeating the last Aeon on her list will open up a new one for you to fight. However, she will not have any Aeons that you are missing, so you will need to get Anima, Yojimbo, and the Magus Sisters to complete her collection. Defeat her Magus Sisters to prove yourself worthy, and you will be given the option of sending her. Do so to get the Moon Sigil.

Abilities: Break Damage Limit, Triple Overdrive, Double AP, One MP Cost

Wakka

World Champion

This deadly-looking ball, which once belonged to High Summoner Ohalland himself, will be given to you by the owner of the cafe in Luca. However, you'll need to have won a Blitzball tournament (and therefore become "world champion") to claim it. Wakka doesn't need to have been in the team; the Aurochs taking the trophy is sufficient.

Abilities: No AP

The higher Wakka's current HP, the more damage this weapon deals.

Jupiter Crest

The Jupiter Crest is in the Aurochs' locker room, in a locker in the southwest corner. This room is on the right-hand side of the stadium entrance.

Abilities: No AP, Double Overdrive

Ifrit may now exceed the 9999 damage limit. The weapon doesn't need to be equipped, nor does Wakka need to be in the party.

Jupiter Sigil

I hope you like Blitzball, because you'll need to win at least four competitions before you can get this Sigil. Obtain all of Wakka's overdrives, which are divided among league and tourney prizes, and the Sigil will be added as another potential league prize.

Abilities: Break Damage Limit, Triple Overdrive, Double AP, Evade & Counter

Lulu

Onion Knight

The Onion Knight is in a chest in the big circular pool in Baaj Temple. The chest is a little tricky to find, as it doesn't appear on-screen until you're right above it, but it can be found by searching around the dark area on the southern side.

Abilities: No AP

The higher Lulu's current MP, the more damage this weapon deals.

Venus Crest

The Venus Crest becomes available on your second visit to the Farplane in Guadosalam. It's sitting there waiting in a chest. You can return here if you forgot to collect it.

Abilities: No AP, Double Overdrive

Shiva may now exceed the 9999 damage limit. The weapon doesn't need to be equipped, nor does Lulu need to be in the party.

Venus Sigil

Thunder Plains, lightning dodging. Dodge 200 consecutive bolts without leaving the area, and then head for Rin's. It'll be in the chest, as well as a load of other bonus goodies. The best place to stand for dodging is just to the north of Rin's, where the path opens out into the main area. Here lightning strikes every few seconds, and you can get 200 in about fifteen minutes. Just be careful not to get blown out of the area, or to start predicting when it'll strike.

Abilities: Break Damage Limit, Triple Overdrive, Magic Booster, One MP Cost

Auron

Masamune

First collect the Rusty Sword from the area outside the Temple of the Stolen Fayth after the Calm Lands. It's embedded in rock on the far right-hand side, near some people. Now head to the Mushroom Rock area, west from the beach where you woke up after fighting Sin. There's a little alcove here with a lift in. Ride it up to the top and use the Rusty Sword on the monument to make a glyph appear on the wall. Use the mirror here to obtain Masamune.

Abilities: No AP

The lower Auron's current HP, the more damage this weapon deals.

Mars Crest

The Mars Crest is at the far end of the Mi'ihen Oldroad. If you fell off the cliff during the boss battle here, you'll have landed right next to the Crest. Otherwise, you'll have to trek along here from Mushroom Rock.

Abilities: No AP, Double Overdrive

Yojimbo may now exceed the 9999 damage limit. The weapon doesn't need to be equipped, nor does Auron need to be in the party.

Mars Sigil

The Mars Sigil is a reward from the Monster Arena guy, for earning a total of ten Area and Species Conquests. To get an Area Conquest, capture one of every monster from that area. Species Conquests are earned by capturing a few of each different type of the same monster, e.g. Flans. Each Conquest will open up a new monster for you to fight; you only have to unlock them, not beat them, to earn the Sigil.

Abilities: Break Damage Limit, Triple Overdrive, First Strike, Counterattack

Kimahri

Spirit Lance

Again on the Thunder Plains. Find one of the glowing Qactuar glyph things, and press square to pray to it. Do this at three different stones, then head into the south area. Look carefully and you'll see a ghostly Qactuar running around. Follow it and it will lead you to a broken lightning tower. Pray near here and the tower will be destroyed, revealing the Spirit Lance chest.

Abilities: No AP

The higher Kimahri's current HP, the more damage this weapon deals.

Saturn Crest

The Saturn Crest is on Mt. Gagazet, just after defeating Seymour Flux and before entering the cave. It's in a chest hidden between the pillars on the left.

Abilities: No AP, Double Overdrive

Ixion may now exceed the 9999 damage limit. The weapon doesn't need to be equipped, nor does Kimahri need to be in the party.

Saturn Sigil

Is in Macalania Woods, a reward for catching butterflies. There are two games, one in each of the winding path areas. Touch the coloured butterfly to release a horde of red and blue ones throughout the area. You now have limited time to collect the blue while avoiding the red. It is possible, but very difficult, to win if you catch a red butterfly. Helpfully, they are in the same place every time and so you can work out the correct routes to take. Win both games and you'll find the Sigil in the chest. You can save between games.

Abilities: Break Damage Limit, Triple Overdrive, Double AP, Evade & Counter

Rikku

Godhand

On the north side of the Calm Lands is a huge thorn of rock. Examine its left side to start a treasure hunt around the area. Note that directions are relative to Tidus, not the screen: left means turn him left. Also note that you have to walk instead of run. At the end of it all you'll be given an airship password, GODHAND. Use this to get the weapon.

Abilities: No AP

The higher Rikku's current HP, the more damage this weapon deals.

Mercury Crest

The Mercury Crest is in Sanubia Desert, very obviously marked on the map. In the final area with the Sandragora pits and Cactuar stone, head west to find it in a chest.

Abilities: No AP, Double Overdrive

Mercury Sigil

This is also in Sanubia, in a chest behind the sandstorm. To remove the obstruction, complete the Cactuar Gatekeeper quest by finding all ten spheres. Use the Cactuar stone to be given a hint for the next location, then find the Cactuar and play its little game. You don't have to win any of them in order to gain the Sigil; just playing them is enough. You are free to leave and do other things between Cactuars. They can be found:

  1. Tomay: Next to the oasis
  2. Rovivea: After the second save point, in the dead end before the exit to the large area
  3. Chava: Read the "20% off" sign to the left of the Cactuar stone
  4. Aleka & Aloja: In the ruins
  5. Vachella: Use the save point in the tent
  6. Robeya: In a chest on the far left-hand side of the large area
  7. Isrra: In a Sandragora pit
  8. Elio: Visit the first save sphere, then head to the deck of the airship
  9. Flaile: Appears as soon as you return Elio's stone

Abilities: Break Damage Limit, Triple Overdrive, Double AP, Gillionaire
