- Tidus, VO: And here I was thinking summoners were all old geezers.
- Everyone else leaves.
- * High priest: Putting your transgression aside for now, let us celebrate the birth of a summoner!
- * High priest: Quickly, to the village square! Share in our joy!
- Village
- Wakka: Hey, over here!
- * Group
- Wakka grabs Tidus and drags him to the assembled crowd.
- Tidus: What? Ow!
- Wakka: Wait till you see this!
- Tidus: I can't see anything!
- Tidus breaks free of his grip, and turns to see Yunie.
- Wakka: Ready!
- Yuna prepares.
- Yuna: Okay.
- She summons Valefor, to the delight of the villagers. The aeon lands with a soft growl, and Yuna pets her. Lulu and Wakka come over to congratulate her.
- Tidus, VO: I had never seen anything like it in my life.
- Tidus, VO: Sure, it was a little scary, but still...
- Tidus, VO: I could feel a strange kind of gentleness coming from it.
- No longer needed, Valefor flies off.
- Village, Night
- Tidus, VO: I remember...
- Tidus, VO: That night, we talked for the first time.
- Tidus, VO: I didn't know it then, but after that night, everything changed.
- Tidus, VO: For everyone... For me...
- Tidus and Wakka are standing before the rest of the Aurochs.
- Wakka: Let me introduce you to the team.
- Wakka: This guy here wants into the tournament so bad, I let him on the team.
- Wakka: His memory's a little fuzzy, so don't mind him if he says anything odd!
- Wakka: Come on, say hi.
- He shoves him toward the team.
- Tidus (nervously): Uh... Hi, guys.
- They murmur greetings.
- Tidus: So, what's our goal?
- Aurochs: To do our best!
- (Tidus): Tch.
- Wakka: Nope, we got a new goal now!
- Wakka: Our new goal...is victory!
- Wakka: To win every match, defeat every opposing team!
- Wakka: To bring the Crystal Cup back to our island!
- Wakka: That's all we need to do to win! Easy, ya?
- (Aurochs): Victory...
- They begin to chant. Tidus is distracted by the sight of his new crush.
- Aurochs: Victory! Victory! Victory!
- Yuna turns to him and smiles. The Aurochs cheer.
- * Wakka: We sure got the boys worked up, huh?
- * Datto: Hey, I was hoping you'd join the team all along, ya?
- * Letty: There's going to be six teams from all over Spira at the tournament.
- * Letty: It's a rough setup. One loss and you're through, ya?
- * Botta: Victory, huh?
- * Jassu: Everyone's acting like we already won! Not that I can blame them, ya?
- * Keepa: Hit the other team hard and make it easy on the goalkeeper, ya?
- * Yunie
- Old man: You heathen!
- Old woman: Stay away from the summoner!
- Girl: You're a bad man!
- Yuna stands.
- Old man: Lady Yuna! Be careful!
- Yuna: But it was really my fault to begin with.
- She approaches Tidus.
- Yuna: I'm Yuna.
- Yuna: Thank you so much for your help earlier.
- (Tidus): Huh?
- Tidus: I'm sorry about that.
- Tidus: Wasn't that... Wasn't I not supposed to... Guess I...kind of overreacted.
- Yuna: Oh, no. I was...overconfident.
- Tidus: Um, I saw that aeon thing. That's amazing!
- Yuna (bright): Really?
- Yuna: Do you think I can become high summoner?
- He nods.
- Girl: Lady Yuna, come play with me some more!
- She nods, and turns back to Tidus.
- Yuna: So, tomorrow, then.
- Tidus: Tomorrow?
- Yuna: We're going on the same boat, aren't we?
- Tidus: Oh, really?
- Yuna: We can (...) talk more.
- (Tidus): Ah.
- Yuna: You can (...) tell me all about Zanarkand!

- She returns to her little group, and Wakka comes over.
- Wakka: She's cute, ya?
- * Yeah!

- * She's not my type.
- Wakka: Then we're cool.
- Tidus: Hey, but what if she, like, comes on to me?
- Wakka: That's not going to happen.
- Wakka: If you get tired, let me know. I had a bed made for you.
- * Keepa: We head out on the same boat tomorrow!
- * Jassu: You should get to sleep early, brudda. Get some rest.
- * Botta: Hey, I'll just try to stay out of your way.
- * Letty: The toughest team out there is the Goers, and the stadium's on their home turf!
- * Datto: Now that you're with us, we got nothing to fear!
- * Wakka: Hm? Ready for bed?
- * Yeah.
- Wakka: Good. Sleep tight.
- * Not quite yet.
- Wakka: Don't overdo it. We leave early tomorrow.

- Tidus sleeps uneasily.
- Dream sequence, Besaid port
- Tidus: Where's that boat?
- Yuna: Everyone will find us if it doesn't come soon.
- Tidus: You really sure this is okay?
- Yuna: Would you take me to Zanarkand?
- Rikku: Hey!
- Rikku: You said you'd go with me!
- Tidus: Oh, hey... I, uh...
- Rikku: I thought Wakka told you not to get any ideas?
- Yuna: He did?
- (Tidus): Uh...
- Rikku: Yeah, so you're coming with me!
- Jecht appears on the beach.
- Jecht: Hey! Stop dreaming!
- Jecht: You, with a woman? You can't even catch a ball!
- Tidus is alone now, and younger.
- Jecht: Oh, what's the matter?
- Yuna and Rikku are with Jecht.
- Jecht: Gonna cry again? Cry, cry. That's the only thing you're good for!
- Tidus (weak): I hate you.
- Jecht: Huh? What'd you say?
- Yuna: You have to speak loudly.
- Tidus (shouts): I hate you!
- Jecht: Eh?
- Rikku: That's the spirit!
- Yuna: You can do it!
- Crusaders Lodge
- Tidus wakes with a start.
- Tidus: I hate you!
- Lulu (from outside): He's dead, okay? Dead!
- Tidus peeks outside.
- Wakka and Lulu are having a discussion.

- She leaves. Wakka sighs and enters the lodge.
- Tidus: Scary!
- Tidus: So, who's Chappu?
- Wakka: My little brother, Chappu. He looked like you.
- Tidus: He's dead?
- They sit.
- Wakka: He was with the Crusaders when they fought Sin last year. He didn't make it.
- Wakka: I first heard on the day of the tournament.
- Tidus: Oh, so that's why.
- Wakka: I became a guardian to fight Sin, ya?
- Tidus: Revenge, then?
- Wakka: That was the idea.
- Wakka: I'm more worried about a stupid game now than avenging my brother.
- Wakka: Well, after the next tournament, I'll be a guardian full-time.
- Wakka: I know it kinda looks like I'm using you, but I'm not.
- Tidus: Don't worry. I mean, I owe you a lot.
- Tidus: You really helped me out, you know?
- Tidus: What I mean is... thanks, Wakka.
- He extends a hand.
- Wakka: Stop, you're embarrassing me!
- Tidus rests.
- * Man: Wakka and the others are waiting outside!
