Eternal Legend
Final Fantasy X-2

It all began when I saw this sphere of you...

It has been two years since Sin fell for the last time, marking the end of centuries of suffering for Spira. The corrupt church of Yevon is no more, the Al Bhed and their machina live in harmony with their former enemies, and the people of Spira are free to enjoy life without fear of the sea.

But what of the past? What lies buried deep in the history of the land, once rewritten by the church? A new craze, spherehunting, is sweeping the nation's youth. With the taboos lifted, people are scrambling to find evidence of what really went on. One sphere in particular piques high summoner Yuna's interests, appearing to show grainy footage of an imprisoned Tidus. She joins the Gullwings group without a second thought, thus beginning another dangerous journey into the dark heart of Spira.

Final Fantasy X-2 is something of an oddity for the series: A direct sequel. Capitalising on the success of its forebear, it sees a return to the familiar roads of Spira with Yuna, Rikku, and newcomer Paine. From the start it is clear that this is no normal Final Fantasy: With the world already explored the Gullwings have free use of an airship and can go wherever their almost relentlessly upbeat adventures take them. This results in a mission-based structure where (with a few exceptions) you can go anywhere at any time, tackling smaller problems at leisure to piece together the story.

Spira may have changed little in the recent years, but the game mechanics are radically different. A strict three-member party sees YuRiPa fight in almost-realtime, chaining together attacks and covering each other while charging up spells. The job system, based on the slightly disturbing concept of Dresspheres and Garment Grids, allows the girls to take on any role and even change costume in the middle of combat. No peeking, now.
