- Eidolon
-
Final Fantasy IX's version of the summon. Eidolons are mighty beings, summoned by the tribe of horned humans-- summoners-- who once lived in Madain Sari; Eiko is now the last of them living there. The Eidolon Wall there is painted with murals depicting the many Eidolons. The power of Eidolons can be used for good or evil, as they do what their summoner wishes. Kuja's master plan involves Eidolons. Eidolons are connected to gemstones, and also to four pieces of a legendary crystal that have been scattered throughout the world. In the game, both Eiko and Dagger can learn to summon different Eidolons, from the various gemstones, among other things.
While in Trance, the name of Dagger's Summon battle command changes to Eidolon. When used, the Eidolon summoned will come with full animation, causing more damage. Additionally, at the beginning of each of Dagger's turns until the end of Trance, the Eidolon will reappear and cause more damage, at no MP cost.
