Stolen on the fly from Junon's underwater section, to chase down the sub holding Huge Materia. Afterwards, the party can use it at their leisure to explore under the ocean between the three continents. It can be docked next to Junon and near the Gold Saucer, and also in a lake high in the mountains, through a connection that runs deep under the land all the way to the ocean. The submarine is needed to access the crashed Gelnika, to obtain the Key to the Ancients, and to fight Emerald WEAPON.

Red summon materia allows the bearer to call forth a powerful being to aid in battle, as FFVII's version of call magic. Most summons will use an elemental attack, some use a non-elemental attack, and a few add status ailments as well. Each summon materia is unique; the sole orb of its kind must be found, and cannot be bought.

- Support magic

Magic that causes status changes, also called grey magic or time/space magic. Inflicting a status ailment on an enemy will generally not directly harm it, but will make the battle easier. Again, curing the party's status ailments, or placing a benificial status change upon them, will not directly heal them, but will ease the battle. Support magic is often found under both black magic and white magic.
