Yuna

Profile

Star of Final Fantasy X, Yuna is a young summoner prepared to risk it all to defeat Sin and save her home of Spira. Her shy and apologetic manner hides fearless determination. She is ready and willing to rise to any challenge, and unlike so many heroes, she is not afraid to rely on the help of those around her.

Costume

As the emotional centre around which Final Fantasy X spins, Yuna is no stranger to screen time. As such, there are plenty of opportunities to check out the costume.

Yuna's top is made from a single piece of thick white fabric, hung around the neck and crossed over the chest. The folds around the neck portion suggest that it is of uniform width, or at least close to it. As that alone wouldn't offer too much modesty, there's slinky black support with a thin strap. Holding everything together is her obi, a wide belt of powerful yellow with pink trim. The back is in the form of a bow, though how it is attached is beyond me. Decorating the whole thing are pink flowers with elegantly wavy stems and leaves, mirrored vertically at the centre. Sorry about the quality of that image. Pride of place left of centre of the obi is a large red flower, through which the central cords are threaded. At the end are long blue rods with purple bead ends, terminated by tassles.

On her forearms, Yuna wears half-sleeves held by threaded purple cord somewhere above the elbow. The wrist ends are heavily flared. The material hangs down considerably along the length of the sleeve, fading to a pinkish colour by the end, though the sleeve is closed near the top of the cloth.

Yuna's skirt flows almost to ankle length, with a gentle pleat to allow it to play with the light. The exact colour is somewhere between a royal blue and a rick purple, depending on the light. In the Kilika sunset, as in the first picture, it appears a bright purple, while more even light reveals it to be rather more of a blue. As this end of the spectrum is where human eyes tend to fail, it's difficult to get any more accurate. A twisted vine design appears on the front, covering the bottom and climbing the right leg. It appears to be two or three separate vines. Finally, the skirt is split up the left side towards the knee. A pair of simple, tall black boots help protect her feet during the pilgrimage.

A pair of loose bracelets adorn Yuna's right wrist, which look like this up close. Her primary piece of jewellery however is her thin necklace in the form of a bell, held between two small hanging stones. A small loop catch sits on either collarbone. Yuna wears simple silver rings on her right little and left middle fingers.

Hairwise Yuna is shoulder-length and generously tinted to catch the highlights of the Spiran sun. Two hanging yellow earrings are seen - rarely - on her right ear. A long blue tassle hangs from her ear on this side, and is easier to see than to describe. Finally, note that Yuna's left eye is blue while her right is green. (Just like a vertical-standing PS2...)

Equipment

Yuna has a small collection of weapon designs. First is a long rod with blue and green handle, and detailed gold terminators. A fragile-looking sphere sits on the top, with a vaguely Middle Eastern pattern.

Famously, Yuna uses a simple red and blue staff during many cutscenes, including the Kilika sending and one in Bevelle. The head of this staff is approximately an inch thick, a gold circle with blue interior and three "petals."

Finally, the Nirvana is her ultimate weapon, a rich blue staff with red and gold phoenix wing design, studded with emeralds, on the head. A short gold tassle hangs from the base, while a long red one is attached near the top.
