Chris was kicked out of the air force before meeting up with Barry Burton. Seeing the potential in him, Burton added Chris to the roster of the new S.T.A.R.S. group. He's a strong character all round, equally capable of holding his own in combat and working as part of a team.

Chris is one of the two playable characters in Resident Evil, and the stronger of the pair. He can take a great deal of damage before biting the proverbial. As if to emphasise this fact, he starts out armed with just a combat knife and must find a gun later. His stamina means he doesn't need to worry so much about carrying healing items, which is a good job as he has two fewer inventory slots than Jill. Over the course of his investigations, he will help - and be helped by - the young Rebecca Chambers.

Jill is a sharp and capable team player, and her courage and determination make her just as deadly when she's alone. She may not be the toughest of S.T.A.R.S., but her natural affinity for gadgets and devices means she can often gain a technological advantage.

Jill is the other of the two player characters. She's more frail in form, unable to take as much punishment as Chris, but makes up for it by having access to the powerful multipurpose bazooka weapon. She is also the so-called "master of unlocking," requiring one less key than her comrade, and can prepare for eventualities with two extra inventory slots.

Barry is the arms expert and outfitter for the S.T.A.R.S. teams. His SWAT training and years of experience are the perfect driving force behind his trusty magnum. He may look human, but he was a tank in a previous life. His support comes in handy in Jill's journey through the mansion.

Previously in Bravo team, Frost was promoted by Wesker to vehicle expert in Alpha team. His curiosity sometimes gets the better of him, notably in bringing about his unfortunate death before even reaching the mansion complex.

Brad "Chickenheart" Vickers would rather stay out of the firing line, choosing instead the much safer techie and recon jobs. He is now the helicopter pilot for Alpha team, but his nervous nature sees him take off at the first sign of trouble and leave the squad to die.

Wesker was headhunted by S.T.A.R.S. and quickly rose through the ranks to become leader of Alpha team. He even founded the Raccoon City division. He has a perpetual air of coolness to him, as if he's seen it all before.

Richard is the comms man, serving radio duty for both Alpha and Bravo teams. He's the squads' only link back to base, and as such is essential to the cause. Unfortunately, he hasn't been seen since he left to investigate the mansion's attic...

Becky is new to the team, recruited for her chemistry skills when it comes to field medicine. She's eager to prove her worth to the rest of the group, but she can't hide the fact she's on edge. Her encounters with the more experienced Chris fuel her confidence, however.

Enrico is Wesker's right hand man and leader of Bravo team. The arrival of Alpha team has left him feeling threatened that maybe Wesker isn't putting enough faith in him.

His position as Bravo team's vehicles expert belies his natural sniping abilities. Unfortunately, snipers are of little use in this situation and he has fallen foul of the beasts of the mansion.

Kenneth was directly found and enlisted by Wesker, although he doesn't quite understand why S.T.A.R.S. needs his chemical expertise. His other position is recon, and he makes a good scout.
