Eternal Legend - Project Zero - Walkthrough

Demon Tag

Doll Room

The rope marks on Miku's wrist fade to nothing as she wakes. Before her stands a young child with bleeding eyes, holding a mirror piece. The child slowly fades into the distance, leaving Miku alone in the room.

That mirror... Give it back!

Examining a nearby wall that one of the children ran through, Miku discovers that it won't budge. A picture of it develops into a Demon Tag scroll. The nearby shelf contains a roll of Type-14 film, and a spirit stone and herbal medicine may be found among the dolls. In the middle of the shelf are four dolls arranged on what appears to be some sort of locked drawer. As Miku walks away, one of the dolls mysteriously falls over and rolls onto the floor.

In the centre of the room are Mafuyu's Notes 2, in which he appears to have been through the same ordeal as his sister. Folklorist's Wife's Papers 1 are on the shelf near the door. They're scraps of her diary, from their early days in the mansion. Her daughter Mikoto seems to enjoy playing Demon Tag with the neighbourhood children here.

Cherry-Atrium

Be very careful opening the door, as a photographable spirit, Child on Porch rushes past as you do. There's no need to aim; just draw and shoot as soon as the door is open. The blood trails from the previous night have vanished, perhaps as Hirasaka has been put to rest. As Miku enters the atrium, a poor woman approaches from behind. Her eyes appear to have been gouged out, and the lids stitched together over the sockets.

So dark... My eyes!

She may be Blinded, but she has no difficulty hearing Miku. Her movements are slow and steady, but her teleportation skills are unmatched. She will stay in the middle distance for a few seconds before disappearing and reappearing directly behind Miku. The cue for this is her tracking circle blinking orange. Once she begins to fade, turn right around and backtrack a little to keep your shot.

Type-37 film glints in the darkness on the stone path between the gates, and a spirit stone is under the left side of the small shrine building. Again a Hanged Woman dangles from the tree for a moment, leaving behind a spirit. It's Yae Munakata, mourning for her missing daughter.

Abyss

The broken walkway over the water has been mended somehow... It now leads to a small burial mound with sacred water and a Purple Carving. A shadow of a Burned Man (1250pts) is in the little alcove to the west.

On returning to the atrium, the Observatory Man appears for a moment on the balcony, but Miku's camera will not seek him out automatically. At the steps, Girl under Porch makes herself visible to the right.

Burial Room

The candles are now lit, yet another difference between this night and the last. Unusually, the flames have a green tint to them. An old scroll among them documents the Blind Ritual. It seems that the sacrifice was even more gruesome than first realised.

On the 26th day of the 11th month, in preparation for the Strangling Ritual 10 years later, choose a maiden with holy power. She should be past the age of 7 years, 9 months, and 25 days.

Type-37 film can be found in the corner of this room, near a locked door. The table with the locked red box has also been rearranged, with a row of unlit candles.

Rubble Room

The Himuro crest is no longer broken, and a photograph reveals its missing stone is on the well in the back yard. Take the herbal medicine and use the save camera to replenish your film if needed, then head for the stairway leading to the yard.

Stairway

Shortly after entering, Miku encounters a KidRunningAway along the corridor. You must be very quick to capture them, running on a little before drawing the camera. A stone mirror may be found to the left of the staircase, if one is required. Following the running child, a pair of fimiliar long arms reach around the corner, followed by the head of the Man w/LongArms. Perhaps that was the child he keeps crying about? Whatever the case, seal him in the camera with a few well-timed shots. He is tougher than the first night encounter, and there's not much room to maneuver.

Next to the northern door is a roll of Type-37 film. The door is sealed by a talisman, apparently protected by something near the staircase in this very room. VengeanceInWall (750pts) is one of the more disturbing images, visible before taking the picture. Monk OutOfDark (1250pts) may also be snapped at the window from the second floor balcony. The small door to the anteroom is being blocked from the other side somehow, so head north to the fishtank room.

Fish-TankRoom

Shortly after entering the room, Miku encounters another brief vision of the KidRunningAway. Turn left after drawing the camera to set it in your sights. Yet more Type-37 film and another herbal medicine may be found in this room, suggesting something very bad indeed.

The door to the back yard is again locked by a numerical combination, but it too has changed from before. It now requests the date of the Blinding Ritual, held on the 26th of November.

Backyard

The save camera is still here, thank heavens. A strange mist floats around the cover of the well, so be sure to keep clear as you approach the camera. Removing the obstruction, Miku peers down into the murky depths, unable to see anything. The sound of childish laughter gradually makes itself clear, until the image of the Girl in Well rises out.

She wishes to play with Miku, taunting her by floating slowly around and occasionally phasing to the side. Do your best to keep her in your sights, as she will suddenly charge for Miku with a great scream. Take a photo as soon as the circle turns amber to push her back. Beware, as she can also teleport away to attack from another angle. Once she is driven, take a picture of the well to see the girl being dragged down to her death by some spirit.

Take the Blue Carving from the well and head north to encounter another Broken Neck spirit. Your goal is the Naurkami-Shrine, and the Tormented ones (2500pts) stuck in the mirror from which Kirie emerged. Another Bound Man awaits on your return to the back yard.

Stairway

As Miku approaches the large mirror, Blinded will come down the stairs for another attempt at her life. Be sure to stay perfectly still, keeping the ghost in the viewfinder until the core turns amber. This zero shot is the only way to repel her, as she will hear the shutter release of a regular picture and charge immediately.

Continue to the rubble room and use the Blue Carving to enter the next area.

Corridor

Stick to the left of this long hallway to catch a glimpse of Bro's Shadow before he rounds the corner. He leaves behind Mafuyu's Notes 3, revealing his thoughts about the way the mansion appears to be changing. He believes the spirits are dragging him into the past, causing his surroundings to revert to their previous state. Why this is happening to him, he does not know, but Miku realises that the same thing is happening to her too.

Use the Purple Carving on the other door to unlock it.

Demon Mouth

In the centre of this unusual room is a large hole, with five claw-like structures and a stone doorway at the underground level. A figure can be seen walking towards it.

It-It's Mafuyu!

Descend to find that the pentagonal arrangement has been tied with ceremonial rope of some sort. The door has some sort of design on it, but it is firmly locked in some way. After examining it, Munakata's spirit (Man Before Door) will appear to the right for the briefest amount of time. Something to do with the ritual lies behind it.

Munakata was standing before a small pillar bearing one of the symbols of the gods. A picture reveals some sort of spiked mask embedded in it; perhaps this is the key? Munakata's research documents to the left suggest that it is the case. The mask is known as the Blinding Mask, and has two stakes which pierce the eyes of whoever it is placed upon. It is used in the Demon Tag Ritual as a gruesome blindfold.

While the demon is blindfolded, enter the rope altar and perform the ritual.

Approaching the ladder, the unfortunate Blinded demon appears again. Once defeated, she leaves behind a box of Matches and a picture of the table in the burial room.

Burial Room

On entering, the young Girl Pointing at the table makes another short appearance. The identity of this young girl is still unknown to Miku, but she appears to be helping her on her quest. Perhaps this is the ghost dragging her back in time?

The white candles on the table are lit, but a photograph reveals they are extinguished and the red ones lit instead. Unlock the box by changing the status of the candles to match the photograph, but beware that lighting one candle will light or extinguish the ones on either side, and this is the only way in which they can be extinguished.

Opening the box reveals a Demon Tag Scroll. As Miku is examining the item, the lost hands of Blinded appear once more in the corner of the room. The screen partition makes combat more difficult, as her ethereal nature allows her to move through it and out of sight. Miku must keep an eye on the filament when this happens, and quickly turn in case she has teleported to her back. As long as Miku keeps quiet, Blinded will be unable to attack.

Doll Room

A faint blue mist occupies the corner of this room, coalescing into another Crawling Girl as in the first night. She is easier to defeat this time due to the floor having been repaired, or more correctly, having not yet been broken. Once she has been driven, a picture of her resting place shows her being pulled through a door to her death.

Use the Demon Tag Scroll on the wall to unlock it, creating a secret revolving door to the kimono room.

Kimono Room

The third of the missing children appears in here, the Kid Hiding on the other side of the hanging kimono. This one is very difficult to photograph, and I have been unable to do so thus far. A spirit stone lies in the northeast corner, and Folklorist's Wife's Papers 2 in the mirror stand. She talks about a camera of Mikoto's with the ability to see things that aren't even there.

Library

A spirit stone may be found on the drawers to the south, and Miku can also find the high-speed Type-74 film in Ogata's closet. This film is very strong, but in short supply. Save it for a special occasion.

On appraching the lamp hallway, the sound of a running child can be heard from the other side of the wall.

Lamp Hallway

A roll of Type-37 film is on the floor to the north. As Miku walks down the corridor, the votive lamps on either side begin to sway in the non-existant breeze. They become more excited, positively jumping around on the end of their chains.

Fireplace

As Miku enters the room, the grandfather clock in the corner begins to chime the hour despite being stuck at 11:45. The door creaks open as she approaches to investigate, and the Boy Hiding within rushes straight for her. This child wishes to play, and has much more vigour than any of the others. He will run around and teleport all over the place, so there's not much time to charge the camera. One attack of his is to jump at Miku after crouching for a moment. Take a picture while he is airborne to avoid the attack. At times he will disappear completely, so use this time to heal up and find a good vantage point. He will drop the Mirror/Piece once defeated.

A picture of the clock reveals the boy being dragged into his hiding place by spirits. Examining it reveals a piece of paper containing his thoughts as he waits for the demon Mikoto to find him as part of their game. Folklorist's Diary 3, about Mikoto acquiring the camera from some girl in a white kimono, is in the drawers on the second level. The door to the tatami room is sealed by something from the rope hallway.

Rope Hallway

Vengeance (750pts) is another freaky apparition holding the seal to the tatami room. The mask in the entrance hall is gone, but shows up in a photo of its location. The hole there is emitting the mysterious blue mist that suggests ghostly presence, but none can be found. A herbal medicine waits near the entrance, which is still sealed by a mysterious force.

Grand Hall

The door to the grand hall is no longer locked, so Miku is free to enter from the rope hallway. As she approaches the broken fence, the large screen doors begin to slide open, one after the other. LongHair Woman descends from the ceiling at the far end, and rushes towards her with a scream. This disturbed spirit is insanely fast, capable of flying from one end of the hall to the other in barely an instant. She also circles Miku and frequently teleports, doing everything in her power to stay out of the viewfinder.

Spare Type-14 film and herbal medicine may be found in here to help with the LongHair Woman. Evil Woman (1750pts) lurks in one of the partitions after she has been driven. The door to the walkway is locked from the other side, so head to the freshly-unlocked tatami room. The shadow of a seated person can be seen in the small screen window in the fireplace, but it disappears with a flat koto sound on approaching.

Tatami Room

Immediately on entering, Man in Study makes his way slowly to the sealed-off alcove. In order to capture him before he disappears, Miku must step into the room. Mafuyu's Note 5 on the table hints to remain quiet around the Blinded.

The small alcove, no longer boarded up, appears to be a sort of study. Munakata's spirit is searching there for his daughter Mikoto. Among the ominous books on religion and demons are two of the folklorist's diary scraps. The first describes how the last member of the Himuro line went on a murderous rampage before committing suicide, and the second is about his wife's descent into illness since she started taking photos with the camera. A small safe on the desk requires a key of some sort.

Walkway

Type-37 film may be found in the closet next to the door. On approaching the mirror, Blinded makes yet another appearance at the far end of the corridor. The door from whence she came is sealed by another talisman, apparently held in the small crack downstairs. Head down and unlock the doors to aid travel around the mansion.

The combination lock to the storeroom now refers to the age of the Demon to be chosen for the ritual. The code, according to the document from the burial room, is 7 years, 9 months, and 25 days. Inside are two spirit stones and a roll of Type-14 film.

The crevice on the eastern side of the walkway contains a stone mirror, and the Girl Hiding (750pts) holding the talisman to the upstairs door.

Koto Room

Inside, photos are strewn around a small desk. Miku recognises them in a flashback.

These photos, they're exactly the same as the ones taken by my mother... Were they taken with this camera?

Also on the desk are Folklorist's Wife's Papers 3, about the disappearance of her daughter and four friends. She is also being driven insane by the camera, and can now see the ghosts even without using it. On taking the Bronze Key from the corner of the room, the gramophone mysteriously starts playing Yae's voice.

It can't be. How can a camera expose things that don't exist?

The nearby koto appears to have been played recently.

Tatami Room

The key from the koto room unlocks the safe, triggering a memory of Munakata's in which he opens the Demon Gate with the mask from the blinding ritual. Inside the safe is a Research Scrap, about the "Mask of Reflection" which is the key to the mansion's mask room.

Immediately after reading the file, ManBeforeStudy walks past the doorway. On leaving the alcove, another image of Munakata heads towards the balcony as Observatory Man.

Observatory

Miku sees a shadowy figure in the atrium below. Leaning over the edge of the balcony for a closer look, she discerns the shape of a woman hanging from the tree: Yae Munakata. This triggers a frightening and confusing memory of seeing her from the ground, and of accidentally finding her taking pictures in a state of delirium. This memory, apparently of Mikoto's, marks Yae's final moments as her daughter finds her succumbing to the madness.

Recovering from the vision, Yae's body is no longer there. Instead, something golden glints on the floor above which she was suspended.

Anteroom

The anteroom marks the quickest route to the atrium, and also contains a spirit stone and save camera.

Cherry-Atrium

As Miku bends to take the photo album from the ground, she becomes aware of another presence. Turning, she bears witness to the memory of Ryozo finding his wife hanging from the tree. As she looks over to Yae's corpse, the head turns and her bloodied eyes glint in the moonlight.

I want my daughter back.

The spirit of the Woman Hanging emerges from her body and attacks Miku. Yae is very strong and quick on her feet, making zero shots particularly difficult. She stays on the move, circling and often phasing out for long periods of time. She stays hanging a few feet above the floor, requiring Miku to aim up to keep her in her sights. The final photograph will develop into a row of dolls, as seen in the nearby doll room.

Inside the album is Yae's Death Note, in which she blames herself and the camera for Mikoto's disappearance. Also in there are three photos. One is a family picture of Yae and Mikoto together in the atrium. Another is a picture of Mikoto with one of her friends - the girl in the white kimono. According to the picture's caption, the girl is named Kirie. The final picture is of two children playing an innocent game of Demon Tag, with an apparition visible in the background. This could be the first photo in which Yae saw a spirit, quite by accident.

Doll Room

The picture of Yae matches the row of four dolls on the stand in the centre of the shelf. Another picture of these dolls develops to show a fifth in the middle, covering her eyes. A collection of similar dolls is on the other side of the room, marked with the clue, "Who is in front of the back?"

Take the Kagome Doll from the display and use it to unlock the drawer. Inside is the Angry Mask which was removed from the entrance. As she passes through the rope hallway, a new rope drops from the rafters. Use the mask on the gap in the entrance wall to open up a secret passageway.

Hidden Pass

A roll of Type-37 film can be found at the entrance to the passageway. Also in this hall are the Talking Ghosts (2000pts), but they are very well hidden. Stand at the T-junction and aim up towards the wall, then turn to the right and snap as soon as the camera detects a presence. The picture will not work if the camera is still.

The masks on the doors appear to act as locks, and a picture of one develops into an image of a pillar. The doorway to the lamp hallway has the Joyful Mask hanging on it, and it can be taken along with the Angry Mask for later use. Hall Wanderer Munakata is to the east, in one of his easier captures. After taking the sacred water from the end of the passageway, go through the door with the Sad Mask.

Mask Room

First, turn and take the mask from the door and the Type-74 film from the nearby corner. Munakata's spirit is here again, still searching.

The Blinding Mask must be somewhere in this mansion...

The door to the north is missing a mask, so Miku has no choice but to enter the small shrine-like area whose wall is decorated with ritual masks. Munakata's documents reveal the links between the masks and the rituals. The sacrificial maiden is a relative of the one performing the sacrifice, and the mask and Blind Demon Ritual may act to sever the attachment between the two:

The Binding Ritual and the Demon Tag Ritual are performed by the Himuro family master. The master wears a mask when he performs the ritual. This is probably to eliminate the maiden of all worldly connections. All participants of the ritual are family members.

On the other side of the central pillar, Miku finds the mask she needs to open the northern door. As she reaches to take it, she freezes in her tracks on realising there is a nearby presence. The sensation seems to be coming from one of the masks on the wall. Bending to inspect it, something moves in the eye socket. Miku steels her nerve and peers in for a closer look, finding that it's actually hollow and looks into the room beyond.

Adjacent room

Four masked priests hold a kneeling woman, arranged in the same way as the dolls keeping the mask. Before her stands the family master, also masked. He ceremoniously holds up an onimous metal blindfold with stakes in the eye sockets.

Wh-what is that?

He approaches the woman, mask raised high. With sudden force and precision, he thrusts it onto her and stands back as the priests release their grip. The poor woman collapses to the ground, screaming in pain and calling out the phrases uttered by the Blinded. The ceremony complete, the priests sense Miku's presence and turn to face the wall.

She recoils in shock and delayed disgust, the cries of the blinded woman ringing in her ears. Slowly she realises the sound is coming from behind, and Blinded makes another attack. The very cramped space isn't much of a hinderance to Miku as the best attack against Blinded is to stay still. Once she has been taken care of, the Happy Mask may be taken from the central pillar and used to head north.

Sq.Garden

Mafuyu's Notes 4 lie on the floor at the entrance. He believes Kirie is behind the curse, and appeasing her is the key to breaking it. Near the unlockable door to the lamp hallway is another herbal medicine. The door to the north is locked by a Himuro crest, and a picture reveals a stone monument of some sort.

In the centre of the garden is another save camera and the monument seen in the photo. Take the Gold Carving and nearby spirit stone, and proceed north.

Buddha Room

This wooden room is flanked by large versions of the Buddha statues from the narukami shrine, each with a damaged limb. Type-14 film lies in the corner. Miku finds the Mask/Reflection sitting patiently on the altar at the far end, but on collecting it the ghost of Munakata appears behind her.

Don't be scared.

Folklorist's is very strong, and frequently fades and teleports to evade capture. He has a tendency to stay close to Miku, giving very little warning for the zero shots and making his phasing even more difficult to cope with.

Placing all four masks on the pillar in the mask room unlocks the remaining door in the hidden passageway. The Mask of Reflection can be used to take the form of any of the other masks, and so can unlock the door to said passage.

Blinding-Room

This ornate room is presumably the same one in which the Blinding Ritual was held in Miku's vision. It holds the gruesome Blinding Mask on a ceremonial pedestal of some sort. There's also a spirit stone in the corner.

On the way out, Munakata appears again as Man in Hall, heading towards the entrance.

It was a mistake to live in this mansion...

The quickest route back to the Demon Mouth is through the library and doll room. The ground begins to shake as Miku passes through the rubble room.

Demon Mouth

Folklorist's makes another appearance on the rim of the room, making this battle tougher than the Buddha room. As Miku goes to place the Blinding Mask in the pedestal, her surroundings are plunged into darkness. Without turning, she senses the presence of the Demon Tag children behind her. They fade for a moment, reappearing closer than before. They slowly reach out to her, until the pressure gets too much and Miku spins in fear. No one is there.

Please...

Blinded makes a final appearance, much stronger than ever before. However, she doesn't pose any more threat in particular than she has in the past. Finally placing the mask on the pillar, the doors begin to grind open.

It's finally opening...

Munakata appears to her side in a memory of his own opening of the door. He stares in wonder into the darkness for a moment, before Kirie's arms drag him inside to an untimely demise, closing the door behind him.

Banned Path

Munakata's corpse lies a little way in, his face twisted in pain. Something he is clutching close to his chest glints in the faint light of Miku's torch.

It's another piece of the mirror!

Reaching to take it, she is hit with a barrage of visions of demons and priests and a mirror shattering. As her vision clears, she turns to see the being she senses behind her.

Kirie.

Munakata's spirit is among those constrained to her back, crying out at the sight of his own body. She advances slowly on Miku, a photo registering her as Calamity but having no effect. The exit is blocked by fallen rubble, and a crowd of child ghosts watch as Kirie claims her next victim.
