Chapter Four Memos
- Twin Shrine Maidens -
In All God's Village, twins were born at certain regular intervals.
The villagers believed twins were a single person that split and got born as two.
Twins were thought to radiate a great energy when they became one again.
At times, boy twins also performed the ritual.
These twins were called Altar Twins
.
- The Hellish Abyss -
The enormous pit at the site where the Forbidden Ritual was performed was called the Hellish Abyss
.
The villagers believed it was the entrance to hell, and threw the Crimson Sacrifices into it to appease the darkness and keep it from spilling out and covering the village.
In All God's Village, it was forbidden to approach this site or even to speak its name.
In books, the name of this forbidden place was only written as the *
.
Anyone who looked into the Hellish Abyss's darkness would die in madness.
Those who performed the Hellish Abyss's rituals were called The Mourners
.
Their eyes were sewn shut so they couldn't see. Anyone who tried to look into the Hellish Abyss was also called The Mourners
, and had their eyes sewn shut, too.
- The Cave -
A huge cave spread beneath every area of All God's Village.
Parts of this cave were used for storage or for getting from one house to the other.
Some of the village wells were also connected to this cave, and the wind blowing up through them from below made an eerie sound.
- One Remained -
The Crimson Sacrifice Ritual made use of the great energy radiated when twins became one.
The ritual was so abominable it was forbidden to even write of it.
The only thing known about it now is that after the twins performed the ritual, only one remained.
