Eternal Legend - Project Zero II - Walkthrough
Project Zero II Walkthrough
Abstract

With Mayu missing, the second chapter offers Mio the ability to explore the village in search of her sister. Much of this chapter is optional, for those too freaked out by Osaka House to want to explore graveyards and obscure nooks. Mio also meets another villager, Itsuki Tachibana, who offers his help in getting them out of this nightmare.

Osaka House, 2F Study

Mio wakes to find herself alone, which at least explains the last part of her vision. Miyako has left behind some spoils: A Spirit Orb used to boost the camera's power, and a chunk of Aragonite containing her thoughts. In order to listen to them, you'll need the Spirit Stone Radio, which may be found on the desk to the side.

Osaka House, 2F Guest Room

The door is open now, but first check behind the kimono to find a Girl in Hiding (1000pts). She only appears when the film develops, and has no core circle or time limit to worry about. Simply look around and snap when the capture circle glows blue.

Osaka House, 2F Sunken Fireplace Room

Mio sees her sister leaving the house, seemingly acting not of her own free will.

I'm sorry... I have to go... It's calling me...

All God's Village, Osaka House, Front

Mayu is being drawn to the crimson butterflies in the village. Follow their trail (don't worry about photographs, as Mio has the camera) and take in the ambience of the voices in the background. Eventually, she reaches a waiting figure, and control returns to Mio.

Osaka House, 2F Sunken Fireplace Room

With Mayu elsewhere, you are free to explore the house a little before giving chase. Depending on the difficulty level, and how long you spend wandering round, you may encounter some Man in Dark. Be prepared, though these enemies are laughably weak and are more likely to shock than to actually hurt you.

Osaka House, 1F Back Room
Spirit Alert: Woman on Deck

Score: 0pts

Miyako makes another very unusual appearance here. She is standing motionless on the deck, with her back to the room. She has no effect on the filament, is worth no points, and only appears in the viewfinder from a few paces away.

Pieces of four Village Reports lie at her feet. These must be collected in order to find the missing pieces later on.

Osaka House, 1F Kimono Room

Finally, it is safe to save. There is also some Herbal Medicine on the ground, but it should only be collected if you really want it...

Hostile Spirit Alert: Woman in Box

Personal best: 4373pts

Taking the medicine causes this spirit to crawl, Sadako-esque, from the kimono box in the far corner. Timing is everything with this poor soul, as she spend much of her time completely invulnerable to the effects of the camera.

As she creeps towards you, the camera will alternate between ineffectiveness and shutter chance in a rhythmic, heartbeat fashion. Only press the shutter during the glow, or you will waste film. Successfully hitting her will push her back some way, but it is important not to let her get too close.

Sometimes, she may stand still for a moment. Following this, she will stand upright and charge towards you in a constant shutter chance - be quick, or she will easily make contact.

Defeating her nets another Spirit Orb, and a Moonstone of her thoughts.

Osaka House, 1F Sunken Fireplace Room

Near the stairs are the Slow Lens and Measure Function power-ups. Measure in particular is worth getting, as it allows you to see how strong the spirits are when you centre them in the viewfinder, but remember that you may encounter wandering hostile spirits while in this room.

Osaka House, 1F Big Tatami Room

There isn't much to see in here, but the lumpy bedding hides Frozen Woman (1000pts).

Osaka House, 1F Entrance

Just before leaving the house, collect Mayu's Charm from the centre of this room. This stone is updated at times with new thoughts from Mayu, so be sure to check it with the radio every now and again.

All God's Village, Osaka House, Front

First, collect the Type-14 Film from the deities statue just to the south.

Optional - Exploring the countryside

It's now possible to take a moment to explore the areas around All God's Village, before heading deeper in search of Mayu. It's entirely optional, but provides rare spirits, some nice items and crucial camera experience. It's also a test of your own mettle; There's a graveyard to explore. If you don't want to explore any more than necessary, simply head west to the save lantern outside Kiryu House and skip down to the next horizontal bar.

All God's Village, Misono Hill

The rotting shinto gate which marks the entrance to the village is your destination here. The rest of Village Report 4 may be found hidden at its base, and then it is time to prepare for another spirit.

Spirit Alert: Gate Checker

Personal best: 1199pts

Masumi Makimura appears facing the gate once you take a few steps away. You will need to aim the camera yourself, but there is a decent amount of time to get the shot right. The picture may be taken from any angle, so don't panic over preparation.

After this, there is an even more optional detour across All God's Bridge to the west.

All God's Village, All God's Cemetery

The entrance to the cemetery is partially hidden near a huge tree, and once you get inside it can be difficult to navigate around the headstones. Concealed roughly in the centre is a glowing Spirit Orb - very handy - and in the southwest corner lies a Glowing Blue Crystal for your radio.

With these items under your belt, and no particular desire to hang around graves in haunted villages any longer than necessary, it's time to head back to the village proper.

All God's Village, Osaka House, Front

Turn right at the junction to head east to the Tsuchihara house. As you pass by the building on your right, look through the doorway to snap Frozen Man (1000pts).

All God's Village, Tsuchihara, Front

Just around the corner lies a well and Village Report 2. As before, Makimura will appear as you leave after collecting it.

Spirit Alert: Well Checker

Personal best: 1279pts

Another easy one, with plenty of time to take the picture. Simply turn around to find him standing to the left of the well.

The entrance to the storehouse, near the save lantern, is locked now and will be for quite some time. Instead, head through the gate and round to the back.

All God's Village, Storehouse, Back

The village isn't quite so deserted after all. A young white-haired boy named Itsuki Tachibana is imprisoned in the storehouse, and appears to be confusing Mio with someone else...

Yae! What are you still doing here?

Who are you?

The ritual will begin soon. If that happens...

Spirit Alert: Trapped Boy

Score: 0pts

Simply take a photo of Itsuki to "capture" him.

As you leave, he offers his assistance in getting you out of the village. You will certainly be seeing him again.

If you cannot find a way to leave the village, come and find me. I may be able to help...

Make your way west, and stick to the left of the path as you do so.

All God's Village, Kiryu House, Front

Another optional detour awaits here, exploring the western side of the village. The deities statue to the southwest hides more Type-14 Film. Cross the small bridge.

All God's Village, Fork in Road

Mio has another vision of a line of veiled priests making their way up the steps of the Kureha Shrine path. To the left of the gate is Village Report 1 among a row of tiny statues.

Spirit Alert: Statue Checker

Personal best: 1471pts

Head to the left after reading the report, and Masumi will appear directly behind you. Simply turn around and you should be focusing right at his core.

Follow the priests.

All God's Village, Kureha Shrine Path
Hostile Spirit Alert: Seeker, Sickle Bearer, Pole Bearer

Yes, three ghosts. This trio may be found all over the village, but fortunately they are reassuringly weak. Each alone is only marginally more interesting than a Man in Dark. Their difficulty lies in the fact that there are three of them, and they may appear all around you at almost any time. Keep calm, retreat if possible, and wear them down with Double or Triple shots.

Pay particular attention to the Pole Bearer, as his staff affords him a longer attack range than the others.

If that was too much, the vial of Sacred Water at the top of the stairs should help.

As you approach the shrine, focus on the lantern to the right of the entrance to find Shrine Shadow (1000pts).

All God's Village, Kureha Shrine

Just after the camera angle changes on reaching the entrance, examine the shrine shadow's lantern to find Village Report 3.

Spirit Alert: Man at Shrine

Personal best: 879pts

This version of Makimura is slightly more difficult than the pervious two. He appears in the centre of the path, before the entrance, and won't do so until you put some distance between you.

On finding the fourth Makimura, Village Report 5 will, er, "fall out" of something and complete his notes.

Go against your natural survival instincts and enter the shrine. This eerie place is decorated with talismans and features, among other things, lifesize straw dolls and an unsettling Crimson Butterfly altar.

Herbal Medicine may be found in the pots behind the fallen lattice, and a Spirit Orb and some Sacred Water are lying around on the floor.

Now leave, and quickly. Mayu needs you.

All God's Village, Osaka-Tachibana

Save. A very tough (non-hostile) spirit is about to appear. You will miss this many times. I know I have.

All God's Village, Kiryu-Tachibana
Spirit Alert: ???

I have no advice here. Sorry.

As you round the second corner, you catch another glimpse of Mayu.

Mayu!

She doesn't hear her sister's cry. Mayu silently pushes open the massive village gate and steps through to the Kurosawa house. As the gate slams shut before Mio's face, it becomes sealed.

Your challenge now is to get through the gate. But first, there are more pressing matters to resolve. Listen carefully and you'll hear what they are.

Seeker and Pole Bearer have appeared at the corner to the south. It is best to deal with them now rather than let them approach and wall you in against the gate.

The gate is now sealed. Take a photo to find Gate Butterfly (1000pts). What does it mean? I could tell you, but that wouldn't do any good. Itsuki has to tell you himself. If you skipped the optional section above, Itsuki may be found at the back of the storehouse east of Osaka. Otherwise, you may be interested in another optional bit of exploration of the large Kiryu House. It is very much worth it.

Optional - Kiryu House

Kiryu House, 1F Sliding Screen Room

First, a warning for the rest of the house:

Hostile Spirit Alert: Broken Neck Woman

Personal best: 2897pts

The most important thing to note about She of the Snapped Neck is that she cannot teleport. She rarely sidesteps either, meaning it is generally no problem to keep track of her whereabouts. The issue here is that Kiryu House is unforgiving in its layout, and it is easy to find her approaching from behind a wall or sliding screen.

Broken Neck Woman also has a very unpleasant sideways lunge to attack, making it difficult to track her close-up before she makes contact. In addition, she is invulnerable for much of this time. Until you are familiar with her systems, keep well clear and attack from a distance.

Be sure to take the Herbal Medicine from underneath the stairs, then head west.

Kiryu House, 1F Projector Room

A film projector flicks into life as you enter, showing an unnerving scene of a sacrifice on the back wall. Watch it in silence, and then you can take Film Reel 1 when it finishes. As the name suggests, you can later bring more reels here to watch.

The other door to this room is locked, so you will have to leave. First, though, if you so wish, take a picture of the billowing curtain in the corner of the room.

Kiryu House, 2F Sliding Screen Room

Up here you can find your reward: The incredibly useful Stun Lens. On the bookshelf in the corner of the room is Folklorist's Note 2 about the Crimson Sacrifice. The door to the south leads to a bridge over the street.

Kiryu House, 2F Connecting Corridor

Chrysoberyl can be found barely visible in the centre of the bridge. If you haven't encountered Broken Neck Woman yet, you will do so now.

All God's Village, Kiryu-Tachibana

Back in the street, follow the crimson butterflies to Itsuki and enlist his help.

All God's Village, Storehouse, Back

Yae... Yae, is that you?

The gate key is in two pieces, each of which are hidden in the twin deities statues around the village. Take a photo of the one outside the storehouse to find Statue Butterfly (1000pts).

Hurry up and get Sae out of here... or else you will lose someone you love... like I did...

The statues you're looking for have crimson butterflies nearby. First...

All God's Village, Misono Hill
Hostile Spirit Alert: Seeker, Sickle Bearer, Pole Bearer

Taking Twin Statue Key L from here leads to an attack by the trio. See above for strategies.

After defeating them, a Spirit Orb will appear next to a stump at the save lantern.

All God's Village, Osaka House, Front

Prepare for a short scene. Don't panic; there are no fights.

The villagers are out in force. Hordes of them scour the place in packs. Then, just as quickly as they appeared, they vanish.

Unfortunately, this does mean that the village knows you're here now. You may encounter random ghosts while exploring outside. Speed is of the essence.

All God's Village, Kiryu House, Back
Hostile Spirit Alert: 3x Man in Dark

Twin Statue Key R is here, and taking it unleashes another trio of spirits. The first appears right behind the statue, which conveniently means that quickly drawing and snapping will seriously wound it or even kill it outright. The other two are some distance away at the corner of the house, and so can be left until this one is defeated.

With the two pieces collected, open the large gate.

All God's Village, Whisper Bridge

Just to the left is some Herbal Medicine. You will need it.

Spirit Alert: Floating Woman

Personal best: 377pts

Just after passing a small hole in the bridge, you will hear a whisper and notice a very faint response from your filament. Quickly - very quickly - turn left and snap Floating Woman before she vanishes.

Hostile Spirit Alert: Sunken Woman

Personal best: 2278pts

Sunken Woman will hurt you if you are not careful. Her introduction alone should warn you to 1) prepare for her to appear anywhere, and 2) look up.

Keep her in your sights at all times. If she disappears, run along the bridge to somewhere safe. When your filament glows bright orange, pull up the viewfinder and point up in time to see her charge. Stay calm.

Take her Green Crystal and Spirit Orb from near the hole. Finally, look through it to find Drowned Woman (1000pts) and put her finally to rest.

Kurosawa, 1F Grounds
Spirit Alert: Bloody Kimono

Personal best: 287pts

As you enter the grounds, pull up the viewfinder to snap this foreboding vision. There is enough time to take a few steps forwards, if you want a better shot. Who is it? You'll see. Muahaha.

The chapter's final Spirit Orb may be found in the corner of the grounds near the crimson peonies. When ready, open the doors to the Kurosawa house.

Kurosawa, 1F Entrance

The interior is as run-down as the rest of the village. Dead flowers lie in broken vases. Strips of tattered cloth hang from the ceiling. Mio's torch briefly illuminates the silhouette of her sister at the end of the corridor.

A gust of wind disturbs the scene, blowing the door shut, and Mayu disappears from view. As Mio frantically scans the scenery, a gentle electrical buzz signals the end of the torch.

The flashlight...

It dies, leaving her in darkness.
