Abstract
A relatively short chapter, this is nonetheless one of the most intense. As well as being drenched in story, this is the first real experience with the true horrors of All God's Village. The setting is the massive Kurosawa house, although only a small portion of it features for now. Mayu is here - somewhere - and you must find her without the aid of your torch.
Kurosawa House, 1F Entrance
A powerful force holds the door closed, and a similarly malign presence has cut the power to Mio's torch. Ominous lightning strikes offer brief illumination, but the darkness is positively thick here. The power of the camera can help, as the view through the lens is slightly illuminated, but this is offset by your inability to see Mio's position.
The twins that will become the Sacrifice have returned...
Spirit Alert: Priest Behind
Personal best: 804pts
Before taking a step, draw the camera and focus on the centre of the door behind you. Walk backwards until you notice a change in elevation - I hope you took your shoes off - and Priest Behind will appear right in the frame.
Bound Spirit Alert: Looking Down
1000pts
After capturing the Priest Behind, you may notice your filament reacting around the hanging cloth in the centre of the room. Look straight up to see a balcony overhead, to the side, and find this spirit waiting there.
Mayu is here, and her charm hints at her worsening state.
I have to get back... the ritual... For the village... we... We were born for this purpose... destiny...
Head to the door on the left at the end of the entrance corridor.
The Kusabi is coming...
Kurosawa House, 1F Antechamber
Spirit Alert: Terrified Man
Personal best: 799pts
You should see him as soon as you open the door; He's crouched behind the kimono opposite the door, and can be seen underneath the sleeve. Unlike other spirits, he will not vanish after time, so line up a good shot now or even walk across the room for a better angle. He will disappear if you get too close, though.
In the other corner of this room, you can find the useful Instant Function which will cause the light underneath the filament in the viewfinder to blink red during a Fatal Frame. Shoot a hostile spirit at this moment and you will do immense damage, as well as pushing them backwards.
Open the door to have a vision of Mayu.
Kurosawa House, 1F Dirt-floor Passageway (Mayu)
Spirits flee along the corridor, running terrified from whatever Mayu is heading towards. As usual, they are harmless and there is no cause to panic. The only path available is round the corner to the Great Hall.
Kurosawa House, 1F Great Hall (Mayu)
Here, the girl in the blood-stained kimono waits for Mayu once more. When they meet, the vision ends.
Kurosawa House, 1F Dirt-floor Passageway
Back as Mio, now, in the hallway you just saw. Mayu can't be far ahead. But first...
Hostile Spirit Alert: Limbo Man
Personal best: 2665pts
Alone as he is, the Limbo Man is of little threat and really serves as a good introduction to the Fatal Frame. He appears at the corner as Mio reaches the candle, putting him immediately in the frame and at a safe distance. He neither teleports nor sidesteps, so you can watch him approach at leisure. Just before he attacks, he becomes invulnerable and breaks into a slow, simple lunge. Step backwards and wait for him to become corporeal again, and you'll find a shutter chance. Hold on a split second longer and it will become a Fatal Frame.
The corridor to the south leads to a horrendous blood-stained room which may be seen through a torn screen window. At the end of the hall, the walls are plastered in bloody handprints. Should you still not lose your nerve, the door will slide shut just as you reach it. Retreat and follow Mayu again. That will teach you to go off on your own.
Hostile Spirit Alert: Limbo Woman
Personal best: 2363pts
Limbo Woman is a much trickier opponent. The women tend to be. First, she sidesteps frequently, which is a major problem in a hallway like this one. When she finally attacks, she does so in a quick close-up rush which gives you little time to respond. If at any time she disappears from your viewfinder but the filament remains strong, turn left - she seems to favour stepping to her right - and you may catch her running for you. If the filament becomes weak, she will have appeared right behind you, so run and turn to capture another close-up.
Continue on beyond Mayu's door to find a Spirit Orb and then look around for a hole in the floor. Examine it for a Glowing Green Crystal to add to your radio.
The Kusabi is coming... I'm sorry... it is our way... We had no choice but to make an outsider the Kusabi...
Kurosawa House, 1F Great Hall
Unnerving, isn't it? Pick up the Fluorite glowing in the centre of the room, then begin to make your way to the northeast door. Note that a screen blocks the platform to the east, so you'll need to go round to the south. Prepare yourself...
Thunder crashes, the room briefly illuminated by flashes of lightning. In the darkness, Mayu trips on something. The next flash reveals it to be a corpse and, on looking round, just one of many that now litter the room. The bloody kimono girl is here too, laughing maniacally in the centre of it all. Over her shoulder lurks a rope-bound ghost...
Hostile Spirit Alert: Kusabi
The Kusabi will kill you outright if he touches you. He cannot be harmed.
Run. Run now. Go round the screen to the northeastern door. The ghost in the room cannot be defeated. Try photographing it if you want.
Kurosawa House, 1F/2F Courtyard Staircase
You are safe again here. To Mayu's right is a short path leading to a Stone Mirror. Upstairs (finally!) is a save lantern.
Spirit Alert: ???
Mayu appears just as you set foot on the stairs.
Bound Spirit Alert: Serial Teacher
1000pts
Stand next to the save point and look to the skies to find this spooky face staring back at you.
Kurosawa House, 2F Guest Room Hallway
The first door is stuck, so head through the one at the end of the hall.
Kurosawa House, 2F Guest Room
The drawers near the entrance hide some useful Type-61 Film. Folklorist's Note 3, on the symbolism of the rituals, may be found on the bookshelf.
Kurosawa House, 2F Flickering Room
This light in this aptly-named room comes in bursts, making it disorienting to say the least. Ignore the doll on the chair and take the Herbal Medicine from the dresser. Photograph the sealed door to see Bloody Wall (1000pts). This is all the way back on the first floor, so tune out the whispers and giggles and make your way there. Remember to run run run through the Great Hall; He's still there.
Kurosawa House, 1F Dirt-floor Passageway
Spirit Alert: Fleeing Villager
Personal best: 274pts
Just as you round the first corner, a fast spirit will appear to lead the way.
Spirit Alert: Dragger/Draggee
Personal best: 799pts
Round the second corner, these two appear. You have a little more time to capture them, but it is still tricky. It's possible, with fast film or a large capture radius, to get them both before they vanish. If not, just focus on one for now and remember to aim for the other one next time.
A closet door in the bloodstained room bangs open and closed, as seen through the window. The main entrance slides open as you approach. Beware.
Kurosawa House, 1F Bloodstained Room
First, take the Blast Lens from the gore in the centre of the room, and the Herbal Medicine from the drawers. Now take a few breaths, and photograph the swinging door (1000pts).
Hostile Spirit Alert: Limbo Man, Limbo Woman
This is not what you wanted to see. Limbo Woman is slightly easier here than in the hallway, as you can stay in the centre and reduce her hiding places. This generally means that the slow Limbo Man will also stay around the centre as you dodge the attacks and run from side to side. Take advantage of your new Blast lens if you have the power, or use Slow to hold the Woman in place while you see to the weaker Man. When he is finished, the battle should become much easier.
You'll find the Diamond Stack Key when they finally fall to your camera.
Kurosawa House, 1F Dirt-floor Passageway
The obligatory Spirit Orb and Faintly Glowing Crystal await just outside.
The Kusabi... The Kusabi is coming... Help me... The Ritual was a failure... Miss Sae... So this is The Repentance... The village will be...
Brave the Great Hall again and return to the Guest Room via the save lantern.
Kurosawa House, 2F Guest Room
Spirit Alert: Turns Head
Personal best: 522pts
The folklorist Makabe appears near the bookshelves, standing there for a moment before turning to watch you enter. Take your time to get a good picture.
Munakata... that was quick. Did you find Itsuki?
He leaves behind Folklorist's Note 4, and a scene describing his involvement with the village.
Scenes of Makabe's arrival with his apprentice are cut with those of what must be his death at the hands of a rope-based ritual.
So this is All God's Village...
In the Kurosawa grounds, he meets with the master and a pair of shy-looking twins.
The Ritual that cannot be spoken about... And the place that mustn't be seen... If I take a picture of that place...
Kurosawa House, 2F Flickering Room
A ghost appears on the floor as you pass through the room. It doesn't do anything, and it won't vanish. Photographing it serves no purpose. Move on and unlock the door to end the chapter.
Kurosawa, 2F Doll Stand Room
Rows of dolls are arranged on a red stand. As Mio examines them, she hears a voice.
We promised we would always be together...
A silhouette is cast on a screen which partitions off a corner of the room. A kneeling person can be seen talking to a disembodied head which they hold in their hands.
...so we ran away... But everyone... died...
Steeling her nerve, Mio looks round the screen to see her sister lying unconscious.
Mayu!
She holds her sister and eases her awake.
Mio...
What happened?
Someone was calling me... Telling me to come back... And perform the Ritual again...
The Ritual?
Mayu buries her head in her sister's chest.
Stay with me... Forever and ever...
Of course, we promised... For now, let's get out of here...
