Eternal Legend - Project Zero II - Walkthrough
Project Zero II Walkthrough
Abstract

With Mayu imprisoned, she is once more out of the picture and (more usefully) out of your pictures. The history of the cursed village is beginning to reveal itself, and somehow show an even darker side than you may have previously expected. In the course of simply trying to find a key to her sister's cell, Mio unearths more secrets best left hidden. The action behind the lens is also beginning to heat up, with strings of tricky fleeting spirits to capture and fewer opportunities to rely on Mio's automatic aim. On top of that, the hostile spirits are gaining in strength, with new opponents and tight encounters ahead.

Kurosawa, 1F Warehouse
"Bound Spirit" Alert: Confined Mayu

0pts

There is nothing you can do for poor Mayu for now, but you can at least take her picture for the Spirit List. She is not a ghost and has no effect on the filament, so just aim and shoot when the capture circle picks her up.

Now it is finally time to leave the Kurosawa house via the cellar. First, though, if you have the Bloody Ring, you can take a long detour to find Makimura at his previous spot in the storeroom. If not, skip this next part and head to the underground cellar.

Hostile Spirit Alert

You may encounter some spirits roaming the house, particularly if you spend too long exploring. Fight if you want to build up camera power, but there is nothing else to gain here so there is no shame in running like a little girl.

Optional: Masumi Makimura

Kurosawa, 1F Storeroom
Bound Spirit Alert: Masumi Makimura

1000pts

The final, bound spirit of Makimura lies at his resting place in the bloodstained hideout.

Now you can leave the Kurosawa house via the cellar. The main entrance is still sealed, so you will need to take the long way again.

Below Kurosawa, Underground Cellar
Hostile Spirit Alert: Woman in Box

Before you can reach the safety of the save lantern, Woman in Box climbs creepily out of the underground well. The low-light conditions in here aren't really a problem, as you should be familiar by now with her (lack of) attack pattern and instead simply react to the shutter chances as they come up. Don't forget her Spirit Orb.

Kurosawa, 1F Grounds

As Mio leaves the house, the torch flickers back to life. The torch itself is fully functional; it is simply the house which is to blame, as the light will once again fail if you go back inside.

All God's Village, Whisper Bridge

Cross the bridge as fast as you can. There is no particular reason to do so, but I really don't like this place.

All God's Village, Kiryu-Tachibana

After reaching the first corner in the road, prepare for a tricky spirit, and a rather rapidfire series of easier ones.

Spirit Alert: Corridor Woman

Personal best: 1329pts

No prizes for guessing where she appears. She is the Broken Neck Woman, who drifts silently along the corridor above. She appears just as the camera angle changes to an overhead shot, though the only real clue is the distortion on the screen. You may also catch a glimpse of her moving in the corner. Run. Run on to the other corner of the road, then turn to face the corridor from the western side, and you can just catch her as she heads into the Kiryu house.

All God's Village, Osaka-Tachibana
Spirit Alert: Lured Woman

Personal best: 111pts

As you reach the T-junction, immediately turn and run towards the Osaka house. Sae, also known as Lured Woman, will appear in the distance, and you need to get close in order to capture her.

All God's Village, Osaka House, Front
Spirit Alert: Storehouse Bound

Personal best: 197pts

The fleeing woman's second appearance occurs almost immediately after her first, but at least this time you should be ready. Draw and shoot her stationary spirit without too much problem, though note that Mio will not automatically aim.

All God's Village, Tsuchihara, Front
Spirit Alert: Weeping Woman

Personal best: 239pts

Continue to follow her and Sae will appear for a third time, standing before the door to Itsuki's storehouse. She may be captured immediately on rounding the corner, as soon as the camera angle changes to point towards the door.

She leaves behind Butterfly Diary 4, with Yae's page blank, and a Fluorite for the radio. For the purposes of the Spirit List, Sense-equipped cameras can capture some extra ghosts now by ignoring Sae and making a premature visit to the Osaka house.

Optional - Village Outskirts

Note: The following two spirits only appear if you make this detour now, but there are other spirits in this house that won't be covered yet in this chapter. If you decide to explore now, do so in the knowledge that you may trigger an encounter that is not listed here. For best results, stick to the rooms below until we return here properly.

Osaka House, 1F Sunken Fireplace Room
Spirit Alert: Pulled Shadow

Personal best: 1223pts

Take a few steps into the room, then wait a moment for this spirit to make himself known. He appears on the floor just inside the corridor ahead, being dragged (albeit slowly) into the little cupboard under the stairs. Finding him is much trickier than actually setting up the subsequent shot.

Osaka House, 1F Family Altar Room
Spirit Alert: Man Facing Wall

Personal best: 885pts

Shortly after entering the room, turn to the right to see Makabe almost directly in front of you. Mio will not automatically aim, but you should have no difficulty at all in seeing him.

It is now time to leave the Osaka house, as there's not much you can do here that you won't be doing when we return. There are a few more spirits you can capture now outside, if you so wish.

All God's Village, Osaka House, Front
Spirit Alert: Crying Girl

Personal best: 1679pts

Something of a sneak preview here, of Chitose Tachibana. You will become intimately acquainted in the future, but for now you can find her spirit in the ruined portion of the Tachibana house on the edge of the Osaka-Tachibana area on the map. Coming from Osaka, stick to the right hand side of the path and look out for the film grain effect as the filament has no reaction to her. When it appears just as the camera angle changes, aim to the right and you should easily spot her bright red kimono. Ignore the filament, and just look for her core to line up the shot.

One more? If you really want it, you can risk a journey to the cemetery via Misono Hill.

All God's Village, All God's Cemetery
Spirit Alert: Grave Girl

Personal best: 1319pts

Preparation is the key here, as the changing camera angles make navigating trickier than it need be. First, head to the northwest corner of the cemetery. This is the end of the entrance path to the main "room" as it were, and the camera should point south to show the entire graveyard. Walk in, and the angle should close up to show a path to the left. Follow it, and Grave Girl (also filament-immune) will appear to Mio's left, hovering over the entrance path.

That is all for now, so head back to the Osaka House region to regroup with the less adventurous types.

All God's Village, Storehouse, Back

Visit Itsuki to find out about the secret passage to the basement of the Osaka house. You have to hear about this in order to be able to do it. Now, finally, the Osaka house beckons.

Osaka House, 1F Sunken Fireplace Room

Ah, it's just like you remember it. Only now you should be an experienced hair-shutter photographer ready to take on anything. With that in mind, the save lantern seems like a good idea.

Osaka House, 1F Kimono Room/Storeroom
Bound Spirit Alert: Woman in Box

1000pts

Having haunted you since your first encounter here, it is time to put the Woman in Box to rest. Without getting too close to her chest, look inside to capture her bound spirit.

There are a few more spirits to capture here before heading on with the primary objective.

Osaka House, 1F Big Tatami Room
Spirit Alert: Staring Woman

Personal best: 1025pts

Miyako is still here...? From the side nearest the door, examine the mosquito net and she will briefly appear outside the window, staring in. Quickly turn and snap her before she fades.

Osaka House, 2F Guest Room
Spirit Alert: Peeking Kid

Personal best: 1451pts

Stand in the centre of the room to the left of the door, and the filament will announce the appearance of another spirit. The trick here is to look up above the partition to the west.

After taking his picture, look behind the screen to the left to find a free Spirit Orb.

To complete this little tour, take a breath and head for the back room.

Osaka House, 1F Back Room

Note: Much of what happens now depends on your having the Bloody Ring from the Kurosawa house. If you don't, you will just find the Alarm function here.

As Mio enters the room, she becomes aware of a suspicious sound from behind a nearby screen. Cautiously venturing forwards to look, her torch illuminates the struggling figure of Miyako Sudo reliving her death at the hands of Masumi. Brief screaming images of the Kusabi and Masumi's own death flash through Mio's mind as he turns to face her...

Before the couple vanish.

What in the world...?

First and foremost, grab the Alarm Function upgrade from near the coal brazier. This will make Fatal Frames much easier to time, and as such increase your combat effectiveness.

If there are other items here, take them to read the chilling Bloody Memo and find Masumi's Sard.

Hostile Spirit Alert: Wanderer, Unrest in Piece

Oh, boy. The back room is a rather tight affair at the best of times, with screens and that annoying brazier reducing your vision and freedom of motion considerably. On top of that, you have two spirits to exorcise and, unlike the villagers outside, each is worthy of a "boss" title.

Some good news, then. You have fought wanderer Miyako before, way back in the first chapter, and despite being a little stronger she shouldn't pose too much of a problem. She is slow and deliberate, making it fairly simple to keep a bead on her, which is essential as when her attack comes, it arrives in the form of a zero shot sprint towards the camera. The really good news is that Masumi has much the same attack system. If you can get them both in your shot from the other side of the room, you can simply watch them close in and wait for one of them to rush.

The bad news is that after an attack, they will teleport elsewhere and usually split up into a pincer movement. Miyako is the weaker and easier to kill, so if you have to make the choice then it's easier to go for her first. When she is finished, you can focus your attention on the trickier Masumi. And tricky he is, as he knows when you're watching. If you use the filament to line up your aim while he is still rather distant, he may teleport away. To counter this, simply be aware of his location while conveniently looking just to the side, waiting for him to attack before turning into the shot.

Bound Spirit Alert: Miyako Sudo

1000pts

Miyako may be found above the coal brazier, but you will need to step away a bit before she will make herself known. If you really want to, you can capture this bound Miyako while the other one is still attacking you.

Now, at long last, we can do what we came here to do in the first place. Or have you forgotten about poor Mayu?

Osaka House, 1F Family Altar Room/Deluxe Tatami Room

First, be sure to grab the extra-powerful Type-Zero Film from beneath the warped screen at the back of the room. Save this for later, and you won't regret it. Now, examine the suspicious wall on the north face of the room and you'll find a pinwheel locking mechanism just to the side.

The puzzle is quite simple. There are five pinwheels in an X formation, each with four coloured petals. You can rotate the outer four, but doing so turns the central one in the opposite direction. You have four turns to match up the colours.

Hint: Each of the four turns will rotate the central piece once, meaning it will end up in the same position as it is to begin with.

Solution: Rotate the top left wheel three times, and the bottom left once.

Osaka House, 1F Hidden Staircase

Steel your nerve, and head down the stairs.

Below Osaka, A Passageway
Spirit Alert: Searching Below

Personal best: 594pts

Take a few steps in and the instant the camera angle changes, Makabe appears in the foreground, walking to Mio's right. If you immediately draw out the camera, he should be dead centre when you take your shot.

The chests and other assorted gubbins to Mio's left contain a Prehnite stone, Type-14 Film, and most useful of all, a Stone Mirror. Don't listen to the stone if you're already nervous about this place. In the foreground, note the pile of rubble obstructing the path: This is no basement, it's part of a huge cavern system... but you can't explore it. So instead, take the Film Reel 7 glowing to the left and, when you're ready, examine the tantalisingly large box nearby.

Mio nervously opens the kimono box, dropping the lid behind it. She peers inside, only to find that it's empty. There is nothing down here. Turning away, she encounters the tortured visage of the bound Mourner staring right at her, motionless.

She gasps in shock. This awakens him from his immobile state, inciting him to attack. He reaches out but Mio recoils, leaving him clawing aimlessly at empty air. This seems to be enough for him, and he turns to join another mourner in the adjacent cavern. As he leaves, the key he was carrying catches on the rock and falls to the floor.

With the mourner gone, Mio relaxes and starts to breathe again... accidentally bumping the kimono chest with her leg.

Hostile Spirit Alert: Mourner

If the clues in the cutscene weren't enough, just look at him. His eyes are sewn shut. He won't see Mio even if she is right in front of him. However, he is not quite like the poor blinded spirits of yesteryear, as he is fast, clever, and dangerous.

If you make a sound, he will hear you. Loud noises will incite an attack. These, sadly, include running and taking pictures. Quietly walking will generally not alert him to your presence. Standing still is the best option, though he can still hear Mio's breath. In the absence of loud noise, he will stand still for a few seconds, occasionally leaning to one side to listen out for signs of life. These are his zero shot moments, and sometimes even fatal frames. You can wait quite safely until he is right upon Mio, as long as you don't move.

Once you take a shot, prepare to run. He will charge in the direction of the sound, flailing his arms wildly. This can easily hit three times if you are unlucky. Often, he will charge without being stunned even if you catch a shutter chance, so be alert. At a distance, evading while in viewfinder mode is doable and even advised, as it keeps your speed down and allows you to be ready for the next shot.

Don't forget the Rusty Key, which can open Mayu's cell. Now, the problem is getting back to her.

Osaka House, 1F Family Altar Room/Deluxe Tatami Room

Head to the hallway, and note the filament as Mio slides the door open.

Hostile Spirit Alert: Wanderer

While she's really in the hallway, it would be madness to fight her there when there's a perfectly good tatami room just behind you. Stay calm, stay alert, and most importantly, stay in the centre of the room. She can rush at you from any angle, and you don't want silly things like walls getting in the way of a good picture.

Open the door a second time to find the hallway Miyako-free, and you are ready to leave Osaka for a second time. Save in the kimono room if these encounters have left you breathless.

All God's Village

The journey back to Kurosawa is uneventful enough, though may spark some hostile encounters if you spend too long idling. Before entering the house, it would be a very good idea to use the lantern in the grounds.

No, really.

Kurosawa, Underground Cellar

I warned you.

Hostile Spirit Alert: 2x Mourner

Actually, it's not that bad. These mourners are weaker than the last one, and a Blast lens shutter chance should help greatly if not kill one outright. The almost complete lack of focused light here, combined with their ability to fade to almost nothing, means you may find yourself just as blind as them from time to time. If so, just remember that they never really do anything that would make them difficult to keep track of. Get a double shot or two in to begin with and you can defeat the closest mourner before the other one even begins to pose a threat.

Mayu is close now, and there is fortunately nothing to obstruct your path to her.

Kurosawa, 1F Cell

The cell is empty. Examine the desk to find a message - two messages? - written on the wall.

Run

Are you going to leave me again?

Also on the desk is Mayu's Note about Itsuki and Chitose, but in her own handwriting, and a photo of the White-haired Boy himself. This triggers another vision for Mio.

Villagers run through the woods in search of Itsuki, who takes cover behind a tree. He turns and addresses his companions Yae and Sae between brief flashes of other scenes.

You two go on by yourselves...

They flee after a moment's hesitation, leaving Itsuki alone to face the villagers.

Don't look back!

The twins run through the woods, Sae beginning to lag noticably behind.

Yae, wait! Don't leave me behind...

But she won't slow down. She yells back at her sister to hurry up, but Sae stumbles and falls painfully down a sharp bank.

Some time later, the captive Sae kneels in shame before a gathering of villagers while they discuss her missing sister.

Yae will come back for me... She will...

All God's Village, Kiryu-Tachibana

As Mayu, follow the crimson butterflies again to the general direction of the Kiryu house.

Kurosawa, 1F Cell

The vision is over now. With no reason at all to stay in Kurosawa, masochistic tendencies aside, leave via the usual route and follow Mayu's lead.

All God's Village, Kiryu-Tachibana

As Mio reaches the corner, she sees her sister crossing the overhead bridge, followed closely by Broken Neck Woman.

Spirit Alert: Corridor Woman

Personal best: 1199pts (this time)

This is a second chance to capture her, and is easier than the last time. Draw the camera and aim up, and the line of sight should be perfect. If you caught Corridor Woman earlier in the chapter, there is no reason to panic over snapping her again. She is the same target as far as the spirit list is concerned.

Tachibana is sealed, but fortunately there is a quick route up to the bridge through the Kiryu house.

Kiryu House, 1F Projector Room

If you haven't already, you can watch the film reel from the Osaka house here, but it doesn't show much. Not a lot of Kiryu is available right now, so there is little to distract you from heading up the stairs to the bridge outside.

Kiryu House, 2F Connecting Corridor

Examine the door to find that it is sealed shut, and you will need to find another way in.

Hostile Spirit Alert: Broken Neck Woman

As you reach the door to the Kiryu house, you may notice some of the spirit signs. Broken Neck Woman appears at the locked door behind Mio, so quickly turn around if you want to catch her in your sights.

The corridor may seem like a difficult place to fight, but Broken Neck Woman is slow and straightforward enough that the reduced space actually helps. She advances slowly, encouraging you to shoot her, but try to resist. Instead, walk towards her to trigger her next phase. When she gets close, she will become invulnerable and continue to approach. As she begins to lurch into her attack, she opens up a shutter chance and then a long, simple fatal frame. Catch her then to blow her back and start the process again.

Kiryu House, 2F Sliding Screen Room
Spirit Alert: Man in Study

Personal best: 664pts

Stay still. Bring out the camera and look to Mio's left. The screen here is in tatters, and you can see the room beyond. Slowly step to the right and Makabe will appear in front of the little desk in the corner.

He leaves behind Lazulite and Folklorist's Note 5, describing another route into the Tachibana house. There is nothing else you can do here, so leave the house.

All God's Village, Kiryu House Front
Spirit Alert: Entering Man

Personal best: 832pts

As you approach the save lantern, keep your eye (and Mio's aim) on the door to the house. This spirit will appear for a short while before entering the Kiryu house through the main entrance. Mio will not auto-aim, so you will need to line up the shot before reaching the lantern.

The door is still sealed, but now it is with a guardian spirit. Take a close-up photo to reveal an image of the well near Itsuki's cell, then head there and take another picture to unlock the door. Nothing too eventful should happen en route. As soon as you enter the house, the chapter will end.
